Introduction to Outdoor Ed.

AUPED 184/283/284

As the gateway courses in Outdoor Education, AUPED 184, 283, and 284 introduce students to the academic rigor of the discipline and the vast rewards of interacting in a meaningful way with the natural world. The students take one 5 day out-trip during the course: Canoeing or backpacking in the Spring or Fall and Snowshoeing in the Winter.

In addition to the in-class studies of group dynamics and conflict resolution, students are expected to apply these theories in their small groups on the trail and in the classroom. Students are tasked with a research presentation in groups and negotiate varying visions on academic projects as well as outdoor living.
