Hovorun, Cyril

Cyril Hovorun is an Orthodox priest and a scholar. His main fields of expertise are the early Christian traditions and ecclesiology. As a research fellow at Yale University, he has worked on the project about the church in the public square, focusing on the patterns of social behaviour of the Eastern churches. Dr Hovorun chaired the Department of External Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. While in Ukraine, he was a protagonist of the dialogue between the churches of the Kyivan tradition. As the first deputy chairman of the Educational Committee of the Moscow Patriarchate, he was responsible for modernisation of the system of theological education in the Russian Orthodox Church. He has been engaged in numerous ecumenical activities as a member of the Commission on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches and as an Orthodox representative to the bilateral dialogues with the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran and Oriental churches, as well as to the Orthodox-Jewish dialogue. He also develops theological programs and teaches at the Stockholm School of Theology and National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy." He lectures on the topics of public theology at the Universities in Canada, the United States, Europe, and China.
