Augustana Faculty Awards

Students interested in applying for the following Augustana Faculty-specific scholarships and awards should submit an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid.

Please note: Only one application form is necessary to be considered for Augustana Faculty Academic, Athletic, Fine Arts and Leadership Performance Awards.

Supporting documents: Please submit all required supporting documents prior to the application deadline. See the specific award deadlines below.

General eligibility

  1. Credit requirement:
    1. Academic Awards - Where the conditions of an award require a specific program of study with superior academic achievement or satisfactory academic achievement, students must have completed a minimum of 27 credits (a full-normal course load for Augustana Faculty) in the previous academic year (from September-April).
    2. Performance Awards - Where the conditions of an award do not require a specific program of study, but require the student to be involved in athletics, fine arts or demonstrate leadership with satisfactory academic achievement, students must have completed a minimum of 18 credits in the previous academic year (from September-April).
    3. Any student with less than 18 completed credits in the previous academic year (September-April) will not be eligible for Augustana awards.
  2. Academic requirement
    1. Superior Academic Achievement – Students must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) on 27 completed credits in the most recent academic year (September-April).
    2. Satisfactory Academic Achievement – Students must have achieved a minimum GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on 27 completed credits in the most recent academic year (September-April).
    3. Any student with a GPA of less than 2.0 on a 4.0 scale will not be eligible for Augustana awards.
  3. Full time status -  Students must be registered full-time (minimum 9 credits per term; 18 credits per year) in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty to be eligible to receive the full value of any Augustana award. If a student drops to part-time studies during the year, they may be required to repay all or a portion of their awards. Please note that academic scholarships in subsequent years require a minimum of 27 completed credits between September and April in the previous year of study at Augustana.
  4. Program of study - Students must be enrolled in an Augustana Faculty undergraduate degree program in September in order to be eligible for Augustana awards. Open Studies, Nursing, Physical Therapy and Special students studying at Augustana Campus are not eligible for Augustana Faculty awards.
  5. Award offer & payment
  6. Donor funded awards - Any Augustana Faculty award may be funded in part or in full by named donor funding. Please see the award categories below for a list of the available Donor Funded Awards specific to each category. Some Donor Funded Awards may have additional criteria.

Academic Scholarships

Augustana Returning Student Awards Competition

Deadline: April 30
Value: $500 - $2,750*
Number: 30+

Conditions: Awarded to students with superior or satisfactory academic standing enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty. Recipients will be selected on the basis of matching individual donor funded award criteria. Criteria vary by award. Recipients must be returning to full-time studies in an Augustana Faculty undergraduate degree program in the following fall and winter terms.

Students must have submitted an online Augustana Awards and Financial Aid Application by the deadline in order to be considered for the awards in this competition.

Notification of award offers will be sent to "@ualberta.ca" email accounts in the summer months.

U of A Undergraduate Academic Scholarship Competition

Augustana Faculty continuing students are eligible* for consideration for academic scholarships through the University of Alberta Undergraduate Academic Scholarship competition. This competition is for students who have completed at least 30 units of course weight at University of Alberta Augustana Faculty. Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher may be considered, although the minimum GPA requirements to receive an award from this competition may change each year. The scholarship values range from $500 to $2,500.

* The objective of the Undergraduate Academic Scholarships is to ensure that students of equal academic achievement receive approximately the same minimum level of scholarship funding irrespective of their Faculty or area of study. To attain this goal of equitable fund distribution, other University of Alberta administered scholarships and awards, including the Jason Lang Scholarship and the Louise McKinney Post-Secondary Scholarship, are taken into account. Please note that if your GPA-based funding level equals or is lower than your previous award total, then you may not receive any Undergraduate Academic Scholarship funding. GPA-based funding levels are determined annually following the closing of the application.

Athletics Performance Award

Deadline: April 30
Value: varies by sport (can range from $250 up to full tuition)
Number: Variable

Conditions: Awarded to Augustana intercollegiate sport team member(s) with satisfactory academic standing enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty. Selection based on demonstrated proficiency and potential in basketball, curling, hockey, volleyball, biathlon, cross-country skiing, soccer, or golf, demonstrated through a successful tryout and full participation on a Vikings athletic team. Eligible students must also:

  1. Have achieved "satisfactory standing" with a minimum GPA of 2.0 on 18 completed credits in the previous academic year (September–April)
  2. Have submitted an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid
  3. Have received an award recommendation from a Vikings coach

Fine Arts Performance Award

Value: Varies by area (can range from $250 - $2,000)
Number: Variable

Conditions: Awarded to student(s) with satisfactory academic standing enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty. Selection based on demonstrated proficiency and potential in choral, drama, keyboard, studio art and/or voice. Eligible students must also:

  1. Have achieved satisfactory standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0 on 18 completed credits in the previous academic year (September–April)
  2. Have submitted an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid

Please Note:

  • Instrumental & Vocal - recommendation for an award is made by the appropriate instructor following a successful audition
  • Drama & Choral – recommendation for an award is made following a successful audition in September once student has arrived on campus.
  • Studio Art – recommendation is made following competition, and success, in the winter "Art Awards Exhibition" as well as remaining in the Studio Art major or minor program and registration in a studio art course in the following year.

Returning Leadership Award

Deadline: April 30
Value: $500 - $2,500

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty. Recipients will be selected on the basis of leadership qualities as demonstrated by involvement in extracurricular school and community activities and academic standing. Recipients will also be selected based on matching individual donor funded award criteria. Criteria vary by award. Eligible students must also:

  1. Have achieved satisfactory standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0 on 18 completed credits in the previous academic year (September–April) and have been involved in leadership and volunteer activities at Augustana
  2. Have submitted an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid
  3. Have submitted a Supplemental Leadership Form [PDF]

NOTE: Leadership Performance Awards are awarded based on the assessment of the Executive Director - Student Life.

Travel Awards

Deadline: Varies by Travel Program
Value: $250 - $500; varies depending on Travel Program

Conditions: Awards are only available in the years the travel programs are offered. Travel Awards are open to any University of Alberta student that meets the following qualifications:

  • The student must be accepted and/or registered in the Canadian Summer School in Germany (CSSG) or one of the following Augustana Faculty study abroad programs: Cuba or Norway.
  • Program deposits and/or fees may need to be paid in order to receive a travel award.
  • The student must achieve a minimum 2.0 GPA on 27 credits in the previous academic year or the equivalent unless indicated otherwise.
  • The student must have submitted an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid.
