Augustana Faculty Awards

Students interested in applying for the following Augustana Faculty-specific scholarships and awards should submit an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid.

Please note: Only one application form is necessary to be considered for Augustana Faculty Academic, Athletic, Fine Arts and Leadership Performance Awards.

Supporting documents: Please submit all required supporting documents prior to the application deadline. See the specific award deadlines below.

General Eligibility

  1. Credit requirements:
    1. Academic Awards - Where the conditions of an award require a specific program of study with superior academic achievement or satisfactory academic achievement, students must have completed a minimum of 24 credits (a full-normal course load for Augustana Faculty) in the previous academic year (from September-April).
    2. Performance Awards - Where the conditions of an award do not require a specific program of study, but require a student's involvement in athletics, fine arts, or leadership/service activities with satisfactory academic achievement, students must have completed a minimum of 18 credits in the previous academic year (from September-April).
    3. Any student with fewer than 18 completed credits in the previous academic year (September-April) will not be eligible for Augustana awards.
  2. Academic requirements
    1. Superior Academic Achievement – Students must have achieved a minimum 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) on 27 completed credits in the previous academic year (September-April).
    2. Satisfactory Academic Achievement – Students must have achieved a minimum 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) on 24 completed credits in the previous academic year (September-April).
    3. Any student with a GPA of 2.0 or lower (on a 4.0 scale) in the previous academic year (September to April) will not be eligible for Augustana awards.
    4. Please note that other UAlberta awards competitions have different academic requirements; those listed here are for Augustana Faculty awards only.
  3. Full time registration
    1. Students must be registered full-time (at least 9 credits per term and 18 credits per year) in an undergraduate degree program in the Augustana Faculty to be eligible to receive the full value of any Augustana award. If a student drops to part-time studies during the year, they may be required to return a portion or the full amount of their award(s).
    2. For renewable Augustana Faculty entrance awards, a student must meet the Faculty’s full normal course load requirement of 24 credits completed between September and April of the previous academic year to maintain their eligibility for the award in the upcoming year.
  4. Program of study - Students must be enrolled in an Augustana Faculty undergraduate degree program beginning in September in order to be eligible for Augustana awards. Open Studies, Nursing, Physical Therapy and Special students studying at Augustana Campus are not eligible for Augustana Faculty awards. Open Studies and Special students studying at Augustana are not eligible to hold awards. Nursing and Physical Therapy students studying at Augustana should direct award eligibility inquiries to the Faculties of Nursing, Rehabilitation Medicine, and/or Graduate Studies and Research.

  6. Donor-funded awards - Any Augustana Faculty award may be funded in part or in full by a named, donor-funded award.

Academic Scholarships

Augustana Returning Student Awards Competition

Deadline: April 30
Value: $500 - $2,750*
Number: 30+

* Please note: award values may change from values awarded in previous years

Conditions: Awarded to students with superior or satisfactory academic standing enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty. Recipients will be selected on the basis of matching individual donor funded award criteria. Criteria vary by award. Recipients must be returning to full-time studies in an Augustana Faculty undergraduate degree program in the following fall and winter terms.

Students must have submitted an online Augustana Awards and Financial Aid Application by the deadline in order to be considered for the awards in this competition.

Notification of award offers will be sent to "@ualberta.ca" email accounts in the summer months.

UAlberta Undergraduate Academic Scholarships

Students continuing their studies in the Augustana Faculty are eligible* to apply for awards in UAlberta’s Undergraduate Academic Scholarships competition. To be considered, students must have completed (or be in the process of completing) a minimum of 30 credits earned in UAlberta courses in the previous academic year. GPA requirements may vary each year, though 3.5 is considered the minimum.

* The objective of the Undergraduate Academic Scholarships competition is to ensure students of equal academic achievement receive approximately the same minimum level of funding each year they are eligible, irrespective of their Faculty or area of study. To maintain equitable distribution of funding, other UAlberta-administered scholarships and awards, including the provincially-funded Jason Lang and Louise McKinney Scholarships, are taken into account. Upon receipt of these awards, the value of your Undergraduate Academic Scholarship may be lowered or substituted in its entirety.

Augustana Athletics Performance Award

Application Deadline: April 30
Value: Varies by sport, but may range from $250 to full tuition.
Number: Variable

Conditions: Awarded to Augustana intercollegiate sports team members with satisfactory academic standing who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program in the Augustana Faculty. Team members are recommended by Athletics coaches based on demonstrated proficiency, potential, and participation in Vikings Basketball, Curling, Hockey, Volleyball, Nordic Sports (Biathlon and Cross-Country Skiing), Soccer, or Golf.

To be eligible for an Augustana Athletics Performance Award, students must meet additional requirements:

  1. Attained a minimum GPA of 2.0 on at least 18 completed credits in the previous academic year (September to April).
  2. Have full-time registration in the upcoming academic year (at least 9 credits per term).
  3. Completed the Augustana Awards Application

Augustana Fine Arts Performance Award

Deadline: April 30
Value: Varies by area (can range from $250 - $2,000)
Number: Variable

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program in the Augustana Faculty. Students are recommended by faculty in each area based on demonstrated proficiency, potential, and participation in Choir, Vocal Performance, Instrumental Music, Drama, and/or Studio Art.

To be eligible for an Augustana Fine Arts Performance Award, students must meet additional requirements:

  1. Attained a minimum GPA of 2.0 on at least 18 completed credits in the previous academic year (September to April).
  2. Have full-time registration in the upcoming academic year (at least 9 credits per term).
  3. Complete the Augustana Awards Application

Augustana Returning Leadership Award

Deadline: April 30
Value: up to $2,600
Number: Variable

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing who are continuing in a full-time undergraduate degree program in the Augustana Faculty. Recipients will be selected on the basis of leadership qualities demonstrated through their involvement in school, extracurricular, and community activities, as well as on their academic standing and donor-funded award terms (which vary by award).

To be eligible for an Augustana Returning Student Leadership Award, students must meet additional requirements:

  1. Attained a minimum GPA of 2.0 on at least 24 completed credits in the previous academic year (September to April). Please note that some awards in this competition require superior academic achievement.
  2. Have full-time registration in the upcoming academic year (at least 9 credits per term).
  3. Complete the Augustana Awards Application and the Augustana Service and Leadership Application.

Augustana Study Abroad Awards

Deadline: Vary by program

Conditions: Study Abroad awards are only available in years when programs are offered.

To be eligible for an Augustana Study Abroad Award, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have been accepted to and/or registered in an approved Augustana Faculty Study Abroad program (Canadian Summer School in Germany, Cuba, or Norway)
  2. Attained a minimum GPA of 2.0 on at least 24 completed credits in the previous academic year (September to April), unless indicated otherwise.
  3. Have completed the Augustana Awards Application.
