Augustana Faculty Awards

Students interested in applying for the following Augustana Faculty awards should submit an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid.

Please note: Only one application form is necessary to be considered for Augustana Faculty Academic, Non-Alberta, Athletics, Fine Arts, Leadership, Transfer and Travel awards.

Supporting documents: Please submit all required supporting documents prior to the application deadline. See the specific award deadlines below.

 

General Eligibility:

  1. Academic requirement
    1. High school entrance students are required to have a minimum 70% admission average to be eligible for Augustana awards. Some award categories may require higher academic achievement (Academic Excellence and Honours Scholarships).
    2. Transfer students are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on 24 completed transfer credit to be eligible for transfer awards.
  2. Full time status - Students must be registered full-time (minimum 9 credits per term; 18 credits per year) in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty to be eligible to receive the full value of any Augustana award. If a student drops to part-time studies during the year, they may be required to repay all or a portion of their award(s). Please note that academic scholarships in subsequent years require a minimum of 27 completed credits (full-normal course load at Augustana) between September and April in the previous year of study at Augustana.
  3. Program of Study – Students must be enrolled in an Augustana Faculty undergraduate degree program in September in order to be eligible for Augustana awards. Open Studies, Nursing, Physical Therapy and Special students studying at Augustana are not eligible for Augustana Faculty awards.
  4. Award offer & payment
  5. Donor funded awards - Any Augustana Faculty award may be funded in part or in full by named donor funding. Please see the award categories below for a list of the available Donor Funded Awards specific to each category. Some Donor Funded Awards may have additional criteria.

 

Academic Excellence Scholarship

Automatic Consideration - no scholarship application is required

Value: $2,000 - $32000

Award Average Augustana Award
95% - 100% $3,000
90% - 94.9% $2,000

Number: Available to all who meet the conditions.

Conditions: Awarded annually to first-year high school entrance students with superior academic achievement who are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty beginning in September and who meet the following qualifications:

  1. Directly from high school with less than 24 IB, AP or A-level credits, or
  2. Directly from high school with less than 12 credits of university course work taken during high school through Open Studies or a similar program at another accredited post-secondary institution, or
  3. Following time taken off between high school and university, provided that no post-secondary credit was received during that time; AND
  4. Have achieved a final admission average of 90% or higher for their program of study;

NOTE: Augustana Faculty applicants with approximately 95% or higher in Grade 10,11 & 12 should apply for the University of Alberta's Entrance Scholastic Distinction Competition. Augustana Honours Entrance Scholarship

Automatic Consideration: No scholarship application is required.

Value: $1,000

Number: Available to all who meet the conditions.

Conditions: Awarded annually to first-year high school entrance student(s) with an admission average of 80 - 89.9% entering the first year of an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty beginning in September. Eligible students must also meet the following qualifications:

  1. Enter directly from high school with less than 24 IB, AP or A-level credits, or
  2. Enter directly from high school with less than 12 credits of university course work taken during high school through Open Studies or a similar program at another accredited post-secondary institution, or
  3. Following time taken off between high school and university, provided that no post-secondary credit was received during that time; and
  4. Must not be receiving an Academic Excellence Scholarship.

Leadership Award

Deadline: June 1

Value: up to $750

Number: Variable

Conditions: Awarded to entrance and transfer students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty beginning in September. Recipients will be selected on the basis of leadership qualities as demonstrated by involvement in extracurricular school and community activities and academic standing. Eligible students must also:

  1. Have a final high school admissions average of 70% or higher OR have a 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits; and
  2. Have submitted the Augustana Awards and Financial Aid application and, in as much detail as possible, completed and submitted the Leadership form explaining leadership experiences for the past three years, prior to the application deadline. Volunteer or participation activities will be looked at in a supporting role.

Athletics Performance Award

Deadline: June 1

Number: Variable

Value: varies by sport (can range from $250 up to full tuition)

Conditions: Awarded to Augustana intercollegiate sport team member(s) with satisfactory academic standing enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty. Selection based on demonstrated proficiency and potential in basketball, curling, hockey, volleyball, biathlon, cross-country skiing, soccer, or golf demonstrated through a successful tryout and full participation on the Vikings Athletic Team. Eligible students must also:

  1. Have a final high school admissions average of 70% or higher OR have a 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits; and
  2. Have submitted an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid; and
  3. Have received an award recommendation from a Vikings coach

Fine Arts Performance Award

Deadlines:

  1. For Instrumental Music and Vocal Awards: April 30
  2. For Drama and Choral Awards: June 1
  3. For Studio Art Awards: Application - June 1, Portfolio - Last Friday in July

Number: Variable

Value: Varies by area (can range from $250 - $2,000)

Conditions: Awarded to student(s) with satisfactory academic standing enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty. Selection based on demonstrated proficiency and potential in choral, drama, keyboard, studio art and/or voice. Eligible students must also:

  1. Have a final high school admissions average of 70% or higher OR have a 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits; and
  2. Have a successful audition or submission of a portfolio with the divisions of Music, Art, and/or Drama; and
  3. Have submitted an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid.

NOTES:

  • Auditions for a Music Performance Award (Instrumental or Vocal) must be completed in early May.
  • Auditions for Drama and Choral can be done in September once the applicant has arrived on campus.
  • Applicants for a Studio Art Performance Award must submit a portfolio by the last Friday in July, be registered in a Studio Art major or minor, be registered in a Studio Art course and exhibit a selection of their university work in the “Art Awards Exhibition” during the winter semester.

Non-Alberta Entrance Incentive Award

Deadline: June 1

Value: $500

Number: Available to all who apply and meet the conditions

Conditions: Awarded to Canadian citizens or permanent residents from out of Province with an admission average of 70% or higher entering their first undergraduate degree at Augustana Faculty beginning in September. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic standing. Eligible students must also:

  1. Have submitted an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid
  2. Must not have completed more than 6 previous post-secondary credits
     
     

Travel Awards

Deadline: Varies by Travel Program

Value: $250 - $500; varies depending on Travel Program

Number: Varies depending on Travel Program

Conditions: Awards are only available in the years the travel programs are offered. Students must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Students must be accepted and/or registered in one of the following Augustana Faculty study abroad programs: Canadian Summer School in Germany, Cuba or Norway.
  2. Program deposits and/or fees may need to be paid in order to receive a travel award.
  3. Students must achieve a minimum final high school admission average of 70% or a transfer GPA of 2.0 on 24 transfer credits or the equivalent unless indicated otherwise.
  4. Students must have submitted an Application for Augustana Awards and Financial Aid.

Transfer Awards

Deadline: Automatic Consideration in September of each year

Value: $1,500

Number: 8

Conditions: Awarded annually to 8 transfer students who meet the following qualifications:

  1. Have final admission to the University of Alberta Augustana Faculty based on a minimum 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits
  2. Must be entering the second, third or fourth year of study in an Augustana Faculty undergraduate degree program in September
  3. Preference will be given to two students transferring from Red Deer College, two students transferring from Lakeland College, and two transferring from Grand Prairie Regional College based on academic achievement. The remaining recipients will be selected based on academic achievement.
