Augustana Faculty Awards

Students interested in applying for the following Augustana Faculty awards should submit an Application for Augustana Awards.

Please note: Only one application is necessary to be considered for Augustana Faculty Academic, Athletics, Fine Arts, Leadership, Transfer, and Travel awards. The Augustana Awards and Financial Aid Office will match you with awards—you do not need to know for which awards you are eligible.

General Eligibility:

  1. Academic requirement
    1. High school entrance students are required to have a minimum 70% admission average to be eligible for Augustana awards. Some types of awards or other UAlberta awards competitions may require a higher average (e.g., Gold Standard and Honours Scholarships).
    2. Transfer students are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on 24 completed transfer credits to be eligible for transfer awards.
  2. Full time status
    1. Students must be registered full-time (minimum 9 credits per term; 18 credits per year) in an undergraduate degree program at Augustana Faculty to be eligible to receive the full value of any Augustana award. Please note that academic scholarships in subsequent years require a minimum of 27 completed credits (full-normal course load at Augustana) between September and April in the previous year of study at Augustana. If a student drops to part-time studies during the year, they may be required to repay a portion or the full amount of their award(s). 
    2. For renewable Augustana Faculty entrance awards, a student must meet the Faculty’s full normal course load requirement of 24 credits completed between September and April of the previous academic year to maintain their eligibility for the award in the upcoming year.
  3. Program of Study - Students must be enrolled in an Augustana Faculty undergraduate degree program in September in order to be eligible for Augustana awards. Open Studies, Nursing, Physical Therapy and Special students studying at Augustana are not eligible for Augustana Faculty awards. Open Studies and Special students studying at Augustana are not eligible to hold awards. Nursing and Physical Therapy students studying at Augustana should direct award eligibility inquiries to the Faculties of Nursing, Rehabilitation Medicine, and/or Graduate Studies and Research.
  4. Award offer & payment - Please see Information for Award Recipients.
  5. Donor funded awards - Any Augustana Faculty award offer may be funded in part or full by a named, donor-funded award.

 

Augustana Gold Standard and Honours Entrance Scholarship

Admission-based scholarships: no application is required; applicants will be automatically considered. View UAlberta’s admission-based scholarships.

Conditions: Applicants with admission averages in the top 5% of the Augustana Faculty’s incoming class could receive up to $3000. Value is determined by admission average. Please note that eligible students will be offered either a Gold Standard Scholarship or an Honours Entrance Scholarship, but not both.

Applicants must meet additional requirements (as applicable):

  1. Are entering directly from high school with fewer than 24 IB, AP, or A-level credits, or
  2. Are entering directly from high school with fewer than 12 credits of university-level coursework taken during high school through Open Studies or a similar program at another accredited post-secondary institution, or
  3. Are entering following a break taken between high school and university, provided that no post-secondary credit was received during that time.

 

Augustana Entrance Leadership Award

Deadline: June 1

Value: up to $750

Number of Awards: Variable

Conditions: Awarded to entrance and transfer students with satisfactory academic standing who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program in the Augustana Faculty and are beginning their studies in the Fall semester. Recipients will be selected on the basis of leadership qualities demonstrated through their involvement in school, extracurricular, and community activities.

To be eligible for an Augustana Entrance Leadership Award, applicants must meet additional requirements:

  1. Have an admission average of at least 70% or a minimum 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits and
  2. Complete the Augustana Awards Application and the Augustana Service and Leadership Application.

Augustana Athletics Performance Award

Deadline: June 1

Number of awards: Variable

Value: varies by sport, but may range from $250 to full tuition.

Conditions: Awarded to Augustana intercollegiate sports team members with satisfactory academic standing who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program in the Augustana Faculty. Team members are recommended by Athletics coaches based on demonstrated proficiency, potential, and participation in Vikings Basketball, Curling, Hockey, Volleyball, Nordic Sports (Biathlon and Cross-Country Skiing), Soccer, or Golf.

To be eligible for an Augustana Athletics Performance Award, students must meet additional requirements:

  1. Have an admission average of at least 70% or a minimum 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits
  2. Complete the Augustana Awards Application

Augustana Fine Arts Performance Award

Application Deadlines:

  • Instrumental Music and Vocal Awards: April 30
  • Drama and Choral Awards: June 1
  • Studio Art Awards: Application - June 1, Portfolio (submitted to department) - Last Friday in July

Number: Variable

Value: Varies by area, but may range from $250 to full tuition

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program in the Augustana Faculty. Students are recommended by faculty in each area based on demonstrated proficiency, potential, and participation in Choir, Vocal Performance, Instrumental Music, Drama, and/or Studio Art.

To be eligible for an Augustana Fine Arts Performance Award, students must meet additional requirements:

  1. Have an admission average of at least 70% or a minimum 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits
  2. Have a successful audition with or portfolio submission to Music, Drama, or Art
  3. Complete the Augustana Awards Application

NOTES:

  • Auditions for a Music Performance Award (Instrumental or Vocal) must be completed in early May.
  • Auditions for Drama and Choral can be done in September once the applicant has arrived on campus.
  • Applicants for a Studio Art Performance Award must submit a portfolio by the last Friday in July, be registered in a Studio Art major or minor, be registered in a Studio Art course and exhibit a selection of their university work in the “Art Awards Exhibition” during the winter semester.

Augustana Study Abroad Awards

Deadline: Varies by Program

Conditions: Study Abroad awards are only available in years when programs are offered.

To be eligible for an Augustana Study Abroad Award, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. Have been accepted to and/or registered in an approved Augustana Faculty Study Abroad program (Canadian Summer School in Germany, Cuba, or Norway)
  2. Have an admission average of at least 70% or a minimum 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits unless indicated otherwise
  3. Have completed the Augustana Awards Application [linked].

Augustana Transfer Awards

Automatic consideration: no Augustana Awards Application is required

Value: $1,500

Number: 8

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing who have transferred to UAlberta from another post-secondary institution and are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree program in the Augustana Faculty. Preference will be given to two students transferring to the Augustana Faculty from Red Deer College (2 students), Lakeland College (2 students), and Grande Prairie Regional College (2 students). Two additional recipients will be selected from other post-secondary institutions based on academic achievement.

To be eligible for an Augustana Transfer Award, students must meet additional requirements:

  1. Have been admitted to a program in the Augustana Faculty based on a minimum 2.0 GPA on 24 transfer credits
  2. Are entering the second, third, or fourth year of study in an Augustana Faculty undergraduate program and are beginning studies in the Fall term

Transfer students may also be eligible for UAlberta Entrance Awards.
