David Tims initially joined RBC Dominion Securities in 1989 as Vice President and worked across Canada in the Institutional Fixed Income Group. In 1995, he returned to Toronto and established one of the first proprietary trading groups within a Canadian bank. He managed this group in Toronto and London for three years before joining TD Securities’ London office in 1998 where he was Managing Director and Head of the Short Term Asset Trading Group in London. David was responsible for establishing TD Global Finance trading operations in Dublin. In 2000, he returned to Vancouver and was the Regional Head for Fixed Income at TD Securities for Western Canada.
In 2009, David returned to RBC Capital Markets as a Managing Director, Capital Markets. As the Regional Head, he continues to oversee operations in Fixed Income and Currencies.
In addition to his responsibilities at RBC, David has taught Global Capital Markets in the MBA Program at the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business, and he has lectured and mentored Portfolio Management Foundation students for 20 years at the Sauder School of Business.
David holds an ’85 BA Honors (Economics) and an ’87 MBA from the University of Alberta.
David continues to trade risk away from the office and has achieved a number of notable descents skiing in the Whistler and Chilcotin back country and has competed in every Banff and Whistler Gran Fondo cycling race.
