Professor Lloyd Steier

Professor Lloyd Steier was recently recognized by the Family Enterprise Research Conference (FERC) with the Lifetime Influence and Impact Award for providing sustained and distinguished leadership toward the growth and development of family businesses as well as family business research.

The selection committee was highly impressed by his outstanding contributions to family business research through numerous publications, enabling the legitimacy and growth of the field as a co-founder and co-chair of the Theories of Family Enterprise Academic Conference, co-editing several impactful special issues, leadership at the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA), and the Family Firm Institute (FFI), excellent program development and teaching contributions spanning across several countries, generous mentoring and guidance of students, as well as the compelling nomination letters provided by colleagues.


Student Success

A team of students from Enactus Alberta including Co-Presidents and BCom students, Phoebe Marinakis and Alex Kinsey has made it through to the semi-final round of competition in the 2020 Virtual Enactus Canada National Exposition. This is only the second time that U of A has made it this far, so we are incredibly proud of the team for all the work they put in this year to achieve that result.


Phoebe Marinakis, '20 BCom was also named in the top six for the HSBC Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership Award as part of the Enactus national competition. The award is designed to recognize, celebrate and honour women university and college students who exemplify success and inspire their peers, community and country through entrepreneurial leadership.


Nicole Sanchez - Hempact

Nicole Sanchez, Hempact Project Manager

A team from student-led start-up, Hempact, including Project Manager, Nicole Sanchez (BCom), won national runner-up in the Scotiabank Climate Change Challenge at the Enactus national competition. Hempact aims to keep feminine hygiene products out of landfills by making a hemp-based version that biodegrades in just six months.


School Pride

Master of Financial Management students from Shenzhen, China sent 2,000 masks to the Alberta School of Business to be distributed to faculty, staff and students.
