What to Do NOW

If you are serious about participating in this course, there are a few things you should do and consider right away, even before registration opens.

Attend the Information Session
On Wednesday, October 24, there will be a China Study Tour Information Session from 5:00 - 6:00pm for all interested students in Business Room 4-06. A presentation of the course details will be given followed by a question and answer period. It will be an excellent opportunity to find out more about the International Study Tour to China and it is vital that all students seriously considering participation on this course attend. Please also explore all aspects of this course as outlined on the pages of this site. If you have any questions or need any clarification about the course or your possible participation, you are encouraged to contact the Study Tour Coordinator or set up a time to discuss in person.
Make a Decision
Your decision to participate on the International Study Tour to China is an important one. The course requires a commitment of time, finances and effort. However, due to the time constraints necessary in order to arrange and run the course, a final decision must be made quickly. Carefully consider your options and motivations and firm up your intent to participate. There will be no drop/add period for this course and deposits are non-refundable, so your decision should be a fully committed one.

Confirm Your Eligibility with the UG Office
Although the course registration is open to all continuing Bachelor of Commerce students in any year of study, each potential participant must confirm eligibility and obtain approval through the Undergraduate Office (2-20 Business Bldg) by submitting a Permission to Participate form. The form is available from the Study Tour Coordinator or the Undergraduate Office. Once signed with approval from the UG, the form must be returned to the coordinator in order to maintain registration. Completion of the Permission Form does not guarantee registration in the course.

Plan to Register and Prepare Deposit
Please review the registration details found above. If you wish to participate on this course, plan to register yourself on Bear Tracks on October 25. There are a limited number of spots available and making sure your registration is completely quickly will ensure your place in this course. After successful registration, a $500 deposit of the Study Tour costs is due by November 1. Please ensure that this deposit is available to you in order to confirm your registration and secure your position in this course. Failure to submit the deposit by the required date will result in your registration for this course being dropped. A copy of your passport ID page and your signed Permission to Participate form will also be required at this time.

Secure/Renew Your Passport
In order to be able to apply for a Chinese visa, it is necessary to ensure that you have a passport that is valid for at least six months after the return to Edmonton (through approximately November, 2019). A group visa application will be made on behalf of all course participants in March 2019, at which time all passports must be ready and available. So if you currently do not hold a passport and need to apply for or renew yours, ensure you have a valid one that is available on time. Due to the group visa application, participants should plan to be without their passports for the month of March.
