Student Ambassadors 2013/2014

 

Jessica Ambler
Jessica is in her fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education program and is specializing in Business Economics and Law with a minor in International Business. Last year she participated in an international exchange to the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain and was able to partake in UNICC 2013, the international case competition the university was hosting. Currently, she is completing a work placement with Western Economic Diversification Canada. Jessica enjoys volunteering her time as a tutor with Frontier College and as an athletics coach at Harry Ainlay High School. As she completes her final year of studies, Jessica values the opportunity to represent the university as a Student Ambassador and share her knowledge of the opportunities embodied by the Alberta School of Business.

Natasha Birchall
Natasha Birchall
Natasha is in her fifth and final year of studies at the Alberta School of Business pursuing her Bachelor of Commerce, Co-op degree. With a major in Marketing and a minor in Business Law, she hopes to combine elements of management, advertising and travel in her future work place. Over the course of her degree, Natasha has interned at The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and Target Canada. She has been fortunate enough to travel extensively to South East Asia, Europe, Central and South America – even managing to spend 6 weeks in Brazil studying Portuguese at a local university and another 6 weeks volunteering in Costa Rica. Natasha has been heavily involved in the organization of the Rocky Mountain Business Seminar, Canada’s longest student-run conference. In 2012 she held the position of Vice-Chairperson, and now in 2013 she is excited to be returning as Co-Chairperson. In a few years time, Natasha sees herself moving to a city such as Vancouver to pursue a graduate program wherein she would obtain both her MBA and LLB accreditations.
Brittany Bryce

Bittany Bryce
Brittany Bryce is a Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education student pursuing a Human Resource Management major and Leadership Certificate minor. She is currently VP Logistics for the 2014 Rocky Mountain Business Seminar, and has also attended the inaugural Network of Empowered Women Conference, volunteered for JDC West, been a member of the Business Students' Association Academic portfolio, and joined the Next Generation Leadership Club Events team. Brittany loves to travel and recently completed a semester at the U of A's campus in Cortona, Italy. She is incredibly excited to be a Student Ambassador and hopes to share her passion for all things business with the greater community.

Megan Gauthier Megan Gauthier is an Accounting major at the Alberta School of Business completing a Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education degree. In addition to academic involvement, she volunteers as a Big Sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters Edmonton at their after school drop-in centers. During her spare time, Megan enjoys reading, canoeing, and baking delicious goodies for her friends and family. As well, she speaks three languages and is an avid traveler with her most recent adventure being a nine-day tour of Peru this past May, followed by a summer exchange program in Guayaquil, Ecuador for the entire month of June. She looks forward to enjoying many more amazing experiences through the Alberta School of Business and the Student Ambassador program.
Behram Gill Behram Gill
Behram Gill is a third year finance major with a minor in international business, and is currently working as a financial services representative for TD Canada Trust. He hopes to pursue a CFA designation and learn more about the finance industry. Behram joined the Student Ambassador program to gain valuable experience and meet industry professionals. Apart from his role in the Student Ambassador program, Behram volunteers with organizations such the Heart and Stroke Foundation, PSA, and various community events in the Edmonton area. He enjoys travelling whenever he gets the opportunity to learn more about various cultures and traditions. Outside of school he is very family oriented, enjoys playing sports, and loves his pets.
Adel Hanafi

Adel Hanafi
Adel Hanafi is a 4th year Finance student at the University of Alberta, with a minor in Strategic Management & Organization. Having participated in the Co-op internship program and many volunteer initiatives, Adel developed diverse interests and a wide-ranging skill set. Last year he moved to Ottawa for 8 months to improve the software development of BlackBerry phones. This past summer, he worked as a Financial Analyst for Alberta Health Services.

Over the last few years, Adel’s leadership position within the City of Edmonton Youth Council has enabled him to fuel his lifetime passion for social justice and community service. In line with his competitive spirit, he participated in French speech competitions, placing 1st nationally. In his spare time, Adel also enjoys exploring investment opportunities, configuring electronic devices, hiking, and fishing. Adel continually seeks challenges and always strives for excellence.

 Nicole Huygen

Nicole Huygen
Nicole Huygen is currently in her fourth year, pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce Co-operative Education degree, majoring in accounting. The Co-op program has allowed her to test the corporate waters, and created an incredible desire for her to secure a job in the non-profit sector upon graduation. For the past three years, she has been involved with the profound competition, JDC West. Holding different roles each year, this year she has the pleasure of calling herself Co-Captain of the Alberta JDC West Team. Being able to represent the U of A and lead a team of talented students has been one of her highlights of her undergraduate studies. An adventurer at heart, Nicole was privileged to attend a semester abroad in Vienna, Austria for half the year in 2013. She gained valuable life lessons from the eye-opening experience, and can’t wait to give back to the School of Business through the means of the ambassador program.     

 Yanyee Kong Yanyee Kong
Yanyee Kong is in her third year of the Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education program, double majoring in International Business and Marketing. She is currently the Academic Director of the Business Exchange Association, as well as the Intern-Servicing Director of the AIESEC Incoming Exchange portfolio. Experiencing the value of international exposure herself, she loves sharing her passion about thinking and going global! Yanyee will be going on an exchange to Grenoble next winter. Among her friends, she is known to be an avid dancer, a foodie and a yogi!
Brett Lindquist Brett Lindquist
Brett Lindquist is a third-year student at the Alberta School of Business pursuing a major in Natural Resources, Energy and Environment and a minor in Business Law. Having just transferred from the University of Victoria, Brett wanted to get involved with the Alberta School of Business right away. In addition to becoming a Student Ambassador, Brett currently volunteers his time to help Dr. Bill Preshing upload extra articles from his book “A Chronicle of Commerce.” He is passionate about the environment and loves spending time in the outdoors playing sports, hiking, and kayaking.
Hannah Marvin
Hannah Marvin
Hannah Marvin is a vibrant and ambitious individual, with big goals to make it in the fashion retail industry. Her dream job would be to move Vancouver and work in the branding department for lululemon athletica. Hannah is in her fourth, however not final year, of her Marketing Degree with a minor in Retailing and Services. She has worked for lululemon in West Edmonton Mall for four years now. On the side she also exercises her passion for fashion by contributing to the West Edmonton Mall Style Blog on a weekly basis. This summer, she is planning on doing an exchange in Grenoble, France to study Fashion and Luxury Marketing.  Hannah is actively involved with the School of Retailing within the U of A, and is excited to be representing the Alberta School of Business as a Student Ambassador.  When she’s not studying, working or volunteering, Hannah enjoys practicing yoga, going for chai teas with friends, playing outside and keeping up to date with the latest fashion trends.  
Kari Morton
Kari Morton
Kari Morton is in her final year at the Alberta School of Business, pursuing a Bachelors of Commerce degree in International Business and Marketing. She keeps herself involved by volunteering as an ESL instructor, at the local Ten Thousand Villages store, and with the University of Alberta’s Education Abroad office as an EASI Student Ambassador. Kari completed co-op work terms with Alberta Health Services and Servus Credit Union in 2011, and until December of 2013 is placed with the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation. She has also completed a study abroad term in Pamplona, Spain. During her free time, Kari likes to attend various play and shows in Edmonton, as well as a book club. Upon graduation in June of 2014, she hopes to work internationally, become fluent in Spanish, and travel to as many places as possible.
 Serena Myles Serena Myles

Serena Myles is in her third year of university, pursuing her Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Marketing and minor in Business Economics and Law. Serena believes getting involved is one of the most important aspects of your education. She stays involved through clubs, conferences and volunteering at various events. Serena was a Marketing Associate for Enactus and currently is a Conference Director in the Academic Portfolio for the Business Students’ Association.  In addition, she is very excited to be a part of the student ambassador team! Her interests include dance, hot yoga, ballet performances and networking.  Serena is a social butterfly and enjoys making connections with students, faculty, and corporates.  With a passion for travel, she plans to study abroad in her final year and immerse herself into a new and exciting culture!

Michelle Ngo Michelle Ngo
Michelle Ngo is in her third year pursuing a Bilingual Bachelor of Commerce degree. She’s majoring in Marketing with a minor in International business. As a bilingual student, she has been involved in various opportunities at the Alberta School of Business as well as the Campus Saint-Jean. Currently, she is VP External on the Club de Commerce Bilingue (CCB) and a Communications director on the Business Students’ Association (BSA). She has recently finished a Co-op term with Imperial Oil and the St. Albert Chamber of Commerce/Farmers’ Market. Being bilingual has allowed her to represent the St. Albert Farmers’ Market on a French TV episode, Viens voir-ici, which airs this year. Upon graduation she hopes to travel the world while teaching English overseas.
Elisabeth Okraines

Elisabeth Okrainec is in her fourth year at the Alberta School of Business, with a major in marketing and a minor in both accounting and business economics. Elisabeth is a Cooperative Education student, and over the past summer she got the opportunity to work with Melcor Developments Ltd., where she fell in love with real estate. She is planning on pursuing a career in real estate brokerage in the retail sector. She has goals to obtain her brokerage license, as well as her Certified Commercial Investment Member designation. Elisabeth has been involved with various clubs in business, including the Business Students Association and University of Alberta Real Estate Club. When she isn’t studying or networking, Elisabeth likes to go running, do hot yoga, and shop for new dresses! 

Olivia Ostrom
Olivia Ostrom
Olivia Ostrom is in her third year of university, pursuing her Bachelor of Commerce, with a Finance major and International Business minor. Olivia is from the U.S. and enjoys giving back to her community, both in Edmonton and the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area. Olivia speaks with the International Bridges Program, is a member of several honor societies, and participates in promotions for U of A International. She is a member of the Delta Gamma Women's Fraternity. Olivia continues to pursue her passion for vocal performance and music composition. She is grateful for her scholarships and enjoys competing and participating in many School of Business events.
Dan Park
Dan Park

Dan Park is in his third year of university majoring in Marketing. Currently he has no minor but he is really interested in minoring in fashion or graphic design. Dan loves getting involved in school of business. Last year he got involved in two national competitions, Next Top Ad Exec and NESTEA - The recruit. Dan and his team made it to the finals for both competitions. This year Dan is involved with UAMA, UAHRMA, and JDC West. He really wants to make sure he gets the best experience from the University of Alberta. In his spare time he loves to go on social media, read about fashion, and just socialize with friends or make new friends. If you see Dan at school he will give you a big smile and he probably will never forget your name. 

Amanda Sawatzky

Amanda Sawatzky is in her fourth year pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Marketing. Amanda enjoys being an involved member of the business community. After participating in the BUEC 444 study tour to China, Amanda is eagerly preparing for further international experience on exchange to Lille, France in January 2013. Amanda is enrolled in the Co-operative Education program and values the opportunity to experiment with various positions. In maintaining a balanced lifestyle, Amanda enjoys being active in sports and the community, and is particularly passionate about the game of soccer. Amanda is determined to get as much out of her degree as she can before she graduates, and would love to share any of her experiences with those interested.

Sarah Shelast

Sarah Shelast
Sarah Shelast is in her fourth and final year of her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Finance and Marketing. Last year Sarah had the opportunity to study abroad in Vienna, Austria; a life-changing experience she describes to be ‘challenging, exciting, and unforgettable’. Within the School of Business Sarah is Events Director for NEW [Network of Empowered Women]. Additionally, she also works for the Government of Alberta in the Ministry of Finance. Sarah has run in many half marathons and plays slo-pitch recreationally and competitively. Her future goals include: going to law school, running a full marathon, and watching the Oilers win the Stanley Cup.

 Katherine Shimaxaki Katherine Shimazaki

Katherine Shimazaki is in her fourth and final year of the Bachelor of Commerce program with a Business Economics and Business Law major and Strategic Management and Organization minor. She keeps herself busy during the school year being Vice-President of External Affairs with the Strategic Management and Organization Club and Director of Academic with the Business Exchange Association. Last winter Katherine participated in a study abroad exchange to EDHEC in Lille, France. During her stay, she had the irreplaceable opportunity to be among twelve other teams competing as a national finalist in the international L’Oreal Brandstorm Case Competition 2013. Upon graduation, Katherine hopes to work with the Federal Government in trade policy and relations.

Jusine Snaychuk

Justine Snaychuk
Justine Snaychuk is in her last year of the Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Marketing. Justine has been an active member of the school's business community as the current VP Public Relations for NEW, a member of the BEA's Events Team, and a previous OM Teacher's Assistant and Marketing Club Director. Justine recently returned from an exchange in Vienna, Austria where she visited over 16 countries and she plans to visit Asia this summer after graduation. Justine grew up as a competitive ballroom dancer and can often be found walking to the beat of a good song as she cruises through HUB to class. She is thrilled to represent the School of Business as a student ambassador and hopes to share the story of her wonderful university experience with others.

 Josh Tang Josh Tang
Josh Tang is in his third year at the Alberta School of Business majoring in Marketing and Human Resource Management. He is very involved in school, last year he was VP Public Relations for the 5 Days for the Homeless Campaign. Additionally, he was a Cohort Captain in his first year, which led him to become an Internal Director for the BSA. This year, Josh planned the Ignite Retreat for first-year business students and looks forward to competing in JDC West as part of the human resources team. The School of Business has definitely offered a lot of excitement and he really looks forward to his role as Student Ambassador.
Vanessa TRacy-Roth
Vanessa Tracy-Roth

Vanessa Tracy-Roth is in her final semester at the Alberta School of Business, pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce, Co-operative Education with a major in Marketing and minor in International Business.  Vanessa’s passion for all things international led her to participate in an academic exchange to the European Business School in Germany.  She has also been involved with a wide variety of rewarding volunteer organizations throughout her undergraduate degree, ranging from the Business Exchange Association to Habitat for Humanity.  Outside of school, she is likely planning her next trip, enjoying a hockey game, brushing up on her Italian or running to a yoga class.

 Rhiannon Williams

Rhiannon Williams
Rhiannon is a third year human resource major pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce, co-operative education after-degree.  Once completing her degree, she is interested in pursuing an MBA and getting her CHRP designation.  This year, Rhiannon decided to get more involved on campus by volunteering with the autism awareness student group and becoming a student ambassador.  She hopes to develop new skills, meet new people, and cultivate professional relationships.  Rhiannon is bilingual and spends her spare time honing her equestrian skills and competing with her horse.   


Chelsea Williamson
Chelsea Williamson is a third-year student majoring in Business Economics and Business Law. She is an After-Degree student in the BCom program, following her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. She has been involved with the University of Alberta Dance Team for the last four years and is the Treasurer and Assistant Choreographer for the 2012-2013 season. Outside of school, Chelsea is a proud member of the 2012-2013 Edmonton Eskimo Cheer Team and cannot wait to travel with all the CFL cheer teams to Toronto for the 100th Grey Cup celebrations in November. Once she has completed her After-Degree, Chelsea hopes to gain admission to law school and eventually work for a firm or corporation with a business law focus.

  Janelle Wong

Janelle Wong is in her fourth year of university, majoring in Finance and minoring in Natural Resources, Energy & The Environment. She is a Co-op student and just completed an 8-month work placement at a small consulting firm in Calgary. For her last Co-op placement, she is planning to participate in an internship program in Washington D.C. Janelle has been involved with the Alberta Energy Challenge for two years and has also participated in JDC West for three years. She is enthusiastic, motivated and enjoys a good challenge, be it academic or extra-curricular and is excited to be a part of the Student Ambassador team! Outside of school, she loves to run, volunteer and spend time with her family and friends. Following her studies, Janelle hopes to build a career that will involve travelling and completion of her MBA.

Erik Hansen is third-year Accounting Major. He is looking for ways to get involved with the School of Business, and is excited to join the Student Ambassador Program. Outside of school, Erik is actively involved in sports; playing hockey during the winter, and lacrosse and golf during the spring and summer. During next summer, Erik will be participating in an internship with KPMG Calgary, and hopes to pursue his CA designation upon graduation in 2012.
