Student Ambassadors 2015/2016

 

Hazel Arellano
Hazel is in her third year of University, pursuing a Bilingual Bachelor of Commerce program, with a major in Operations Management. Most of Hazel’s involvements come from the French community. Last summer, she was employed by Edmonton’s Francophone spokes organization, ACFA, and she is currently working for a pharmaceutical company as a bilingual customer service representative. This year, Hazel enjoyed being an Orientation Leader to first year students, and had an amazing time volunteering during Week of Welcome. When she is not at school, Hazel is most likely eating, doing pilates, learning a new language, trying a new hobby, or serving in her local church. She was bitten by the travel bug when she visited Berlin this summer!                         


Meron Bosiak
Meron is in his fourth year of university, pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting and a minor in Management Information Systems. He is also planning on pursuing a CPA designation once he completes his degree. Meron is currently a TA for MIS 311 and a student mentor for the Business Students Association. He currently works part-time in retail and is always looking to use his unique set of skills to take on the next challenge that presents itself. Meron is fluent in 3 languages and enjoys almost anything sports related. Meron is very excited to be an ambassador, and share his amazing experience at the Alberta School of Business with other students and the external community.
 

Victor Chowdhury
Victor is a proud fourth year Finance major and Business Economics and Law minor at the Alberta School of Business. Having spent the first couple years of his degree in another program, he found his calling within the business faculty and is extremely excited to share his enthusiasm for the school as a student ambassador. Victor spent the last summer working as a Risk and Finance assistant for the Government of Yukon in Whitehorse, Yukon following a year as the VP Finance for the Lister Hall Students' Association on campus. His plan is to return back home to Whitehorse this summer for another work term before graduating next Fall and looking to establish himself in Edmonton. Victor enjoys playing and following sports (Go Blue Jays!!), discussing current events, local news and learning about new ideas, technologies and cultures."


Amy Departo
Amy is a third year undergraduate student pursuing a major in Accounting and a minor in Business Economics and Law. An interest in dealing with people has supported her role as a part time accounting clerk at a well-known executive search firm. Amy is an active volunteer with the City of Edmonton in the area of community revitalization. When she isn't busy with school or work she enjoys staying active and can be found partaking in many sporting events on and off campus; whether it be on top of a mountain in the sun or in the snow, she is eager to engage herself in new opportunities. Amy is proud to be an Alberta School of Business Student Ambassador. 

 David Friedland

David Friedland
David is a fourth year Human Resource Management Major at the University of Alberta School of Business. He brings a passion for learning about people to the School, and a strong desire to excel in the challenging, fast paced business world. David's background in customer relations is extensive and continues to grow, allowing him to bring a unique perspective to the team. He has been involved with the JOEY Restaurant Group, Scotiabank, and various non-profits over the last few years and is always excited to move onto the next big challenge. This year, David is involved with the Business Students' Association as the Conference Director for the Academic Portfolio, JDC West as an HR Team Competitor, and with the School of Retailing Consulting Group as a Junior Partner.

 

Jill Hacking
Jill is a Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education student specializing in Finance. She is currently vice-president Logistics of the Rocky Mountain Business Seminar, which will take place in February 2015. In addition, Jill is the student services director for the Business Students’ Association and is launching a Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Program this year. Jill enjoys the outdoors and learning about urban planning and trends. She is excited to represent the Alberta School of Business as a Student Ambassador.

 

David He
David is currently in his final year of studies at the Alberta School of Business majoring in Finance and minoring in Management Information Systems. Alongside with David’s education are his involvement in the Cooperative Education program and extracurricular programs here at the business school. In his work terms, he has worked at ATB Financial, ConocoPhillips Canada, and PepsiCo –Beverages. For his extracurricular involvement, he has been a part of many case competitions, Lazy Faire, RMBS, and heavily in AIESEC. In AIESEC, he was the local committee president for the 2015 year, visited Brazil to promote our Country’s relationship, and oversaw three leadership conferences composed of over 400 delegates. In his final year, he is excited to represent the Alberta School of Business as a Student Ambassador to share his impactful experiences with the stakeholders of the Business School.


Morgan Hrycak
Morgan is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student, pursuing a double major in Natural Resources, Energy, and Environment, and Business Economics and Law. Along with taking on the role of a Student Ambassador, she is involved with the Campus Food Bank and the Science FUNdamentals program at the University of Alberta. In her spare time, Morgan has enjoyed horseback riding for several years. She has previously volunteered with the Little Bits Therapeutic Riding Association, in addition to assisting beginner riders through the summer camps for children at Whitemud Equine Centre. This past summer, she worked as a special events coordinator for the Victim Services Society of Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and District, and contributed to the organization of the 25th Annual Victim Services Charity Golf Tournament. Morgan is excited to be a part of the Student Ambassador program this year, and is looking forward to representing a faculty where she has greatly enjoyed her academic experience. 


Divleen Kang
Divleen is a Human Resource Management major and Marketing minor in her fourth year of the Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education program. She is also a member of the Certificate in International Learning program, and is determined to go on an exchange before graduating in April 2017. Divleen believes that education at the University of Alberta School of Business is much more than taking courses, therefore she tends to stay highly involved. This year, she is holding the co-chair position for the Alberta Not-for-Profit Association and is the president for the Cooperative Education Students Association, amongst having a presence in other student groups, attending conferences and volunteering for various initiatives. She will be working part-time at Merit Contractors Association and she is a returning teaching assistant for MGTSC 312. Upon graduation, Divleen hopes to work in the not-for-profit sector. She currently sits on the Board of HIV Edmonton as part of the Non-Profit Board Internship Program. Divleen is truly grateful for all the opportunities available to her and is excited to give back to the Alberta School of Business through the Student Ambassador Program.


Madison Lalonde
Madison is in the fifth year of her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Strategic Management and Organization and a minor in French Language and Literature. Due to her passion for music, she spent the past two years on the executive of the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus in roles such as tour manager and social convener managing events like their annual tour. At the moment she is a water safety instructor trainer for the City of Edmonton and a server for the Delta Edmonton South. She greatly values the culture and opportunity for growth within both of these organizations and is excited about what the future holds. Upon graduation, she wants to continue to travel around the world to expand her passion for diversity in language. Madison has already enjoyed the opportunities she has had as a Student Ambassador for the Alberta School of Business and looks forward to the rest of the year.        
 

Chantelle Lam
Chantelle is in her final year of her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Accounting and minor in Management Information Systems. She enjoys volunteering and being involved in the community. This year, she is serving as vice-president marketing for the Management Information Systems Club, and as vice-president External for the Student Volunteer Campus Community. Durig her undergraduate degree, she had the opportunity to study abroad in Taiwan, during which, she grew a stronger passion for travelling and other international opportunities. Since returning, she has enrolled in the Certificate in International Learning Program and spent her past summer studying at the University of Montreal. Chantelle is very excited to have the opportunity to represent the Alberta School of Business as a Student Ambassador this year!

 

Felicia Liang
Felicia is in her final year working to complete her Bachelor of Commerce degree in Business Economics and Law and Marketing. She is building up her international experience by pursuing a Certificate in International Learning, which thus far has led her to participate in an exchange semester in South Korea and an internship at the Consulate General of Canada in China. Unsurprisingly, one of her passions is travelling and photographing different corners of the world, having recently attended the Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business Conference in Boston and soon attending Queen's Business Forum on the Fashion Industry in Kingston. She has also been actively involved with student groups such as the Alberta Not-for-Profit Association, Business Exchange Association, LazyFaire Magazine, and University of Alberta International, to name a few. Having been given such valuable opportunities by the Alberta School of Business, she is excited to be a Student Ambassador to all share the positive experiences she has had over the course of her undergraduate career.



Alexandra Mills
Alexandra is in her third year of the Bachelor of Commerce program, with a major in International Business and a minor in Strategic Management and Organization. She enjoys being involved in her community, particularly with Youth Programs and Healthy Child Development initiatives. Alexandra also has a passion for involvement in the global community, currently heading up a team that is seeking to provide early childhood needs to environmental and political refugees, as well as areas of extreme poverty through the University of Alberta Rotaract Club. Alexandra is also involved in mentorship programs with the Business Students Association and the Business Exchange Association. Alexandra is very excited to be studying abroad in Lille, France this coming winter term, hoping to further her fluency in the French language and share her love of travel with those she meets. She looks forward to the opportunities and experiences that await her through the Alberta School of Business Ambassador Program. 

 Dina Mueller

Dina Mueller
Dina is a third year Bachelor of Commerce student pursuing a major in Finance with an additional focus in the fields of Accounting and Economics. After being involved in various student groups and competing in multiple case competitions in her first year, she developed a passion for the school of business and is excited to share her experiences with others through her tenure as a student ambassador. Dina is also actively engaged in her community and enjoys working particularly with children and youth. Over the past three summers, she had the opportunity to work in partnership with Torchbearers International in customizing and leading conferencing programs for schools, businesses and non-profit organizations. Upon graduation she hopes to complete her Juris Doctor and pursue a career in child advocacy. Apart from school, Dina is an avid tennis player and pianist who is looking forward to spending a semester in Vienna next year and perfecting her German language skills. 


Gabriel Nunes 
Gabriel is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Marketing and a minor in International Business. He is also enrolled in the Certificate in International Learning and Cooperative Education programs. He is currently working as a Corporate Project Officer at the headquarters of Western Economic Diversification Canada, a department of the Government of Canada. Gabriel has been a member of various student groups such as the Business Exchange Association, Lazy Faire, and Enactus. He has had the opportunity to represent the school at the Manitoba International Marketing Competition. Furthermore, Gabriel has been able to participate in two study abroad programs: the e3 in Brazil Summer Program as well as an International Exchange Program in Austria. Some of his interests include urban planning, e-commerce, technology, travel, retail, sales, and entrepreneurship. Gabriel is extremely excited for this chance to give back to the school through the Student Ambassador Program.


Ekta Prabhakar
Ekta is in her fourth year of university pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education degree with a major in Accounting and minor in Sociology. This past summer she gained valuable experience as a staff accountant at Hahn and Houle LLLP, and is looking forward to her next Co-op term with them in 2016. Upon graduation, she plans on working towards her CPA designation, and eventually returning to the Alberta School of Business for her MBA.  Outside of school, she loves to participate in various marathons hosted by the Running Room, enjoys volunteering and giving back to the community, in addition to spending time with friends and family.  Ekta looks forward to the upcoming year as a Student Ambassador and is excited to learn more from business professionals. 


Oliver Philipp 
Oliver is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student majoring in Accounting. Originally from Vancouver, Oliver was a director in the University of Alberta’s ‘5 Days for the Homeless’ campaign last year, as well as a Cohort Representative for the Business Students Association. This February, Oliver will be going on exchange to Holland for 6 months, studying at Utrecht University. Oliver enjoys sports, music, and travel, and is passionate about philanthropy and the environment as well. He looks for every opportunity to be involved with the Alberta School of Business, and loves the community. He plans to acquire his CPA designation upon graduation. Oliver is ecstatic to be a student ambassador, and hopes he can share the same passion for the school he embraces. 

Rebecca Scammell

Rebecca Scammell
Rebecca is in her third year pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Marketing and a minor in Retailing and Services. Being a proud Albertan she hopes to get a job in the oil and gas industry. This past summer she worked for the University of Alberta Devonian Botanic Gardens events crew. She worked collectively with a team to coordinate weddings and special events at the garden. Rebecca enjoys volunteering her time for the Study Buddy Program with Edmonton Public Schools and is very excited to be a Student Ambassador this year. In her spare time Rebecca enjoys cooking, scrapbooking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.  Her favorite place she has travelled to so far is France and she plans to study abroad in the upcoming year. 

 Sumita Sharma

Sumita Sharma
Sumita is thrilled to be an Ambassador for the Alberta School of Business for a second year! She is in the final year of her Bachelor of Commerce Degree as a Strategic Management and Organization major and a Business Economics and Law minor. Sumita is also a part of the Network of Empowered Women as the vice-president external, and she is vice-president Finance for both the University of Alberta Human Resource Management Association and the University of Alberta Real Estate Committee. Sumita also has a passion for traveling, visiting eight countries and 15 cities over the past year. When Sumita is not traveling, studying, or juggling her volunteer commitments, she has worked with the Government of Alberta in the Ministry of Transportation for the past four years. Sumita is incredibly grateful for all of her opportunities that have welcomed her at the Albert School of Business, and is excited to see what new possibilities the coming year brings.

  Nuha Soliman
Nuha is in her final year at the Alberta School of Business, majoring in Human Resources Management. Nuha has a strong passion for Entrepreneurship and is currently a Project Manager for ENACTUS. She also believes in community involvement and is the current director of grants and trusts for TeamUp Science, as well as the director of events for Islamic Relief at the University of Alberta. She enjoys participating yearly in the University Tax Clinic and assisting students with their taxes. Outside of school Nuha enjoys spending time with family and friends, volunteering with her younger sisters soccer team, as well as travelling. Nuha is very excited to be a Student Ambassador and looks forward to sharing the passion she has for the Alberta School of Business with prospective students, as well as Edmonton’s greater business community.  
 Crystal Szeto

Crystal Szeto
Crystal is currently in her fourth year of university majoring in Accounting. She has always been actively involved with school activities and during her time in Business participated in various clubs and competitions. Last year she was a Financial Literacy Project Member for ENACTUS University of Alberta. Crystal then continued her ENACTUS journey by representing U of A at the Regional Competition and National Exposition situated in Calgary. She participated in the Integrated Case Competition (2014) where her team made it to finals. This year, Crystal has also become a MIS 311 TA and volunteers to mentor youth in her community. Her favourite past times include swimming, photography and hiking. Crystal looks forward to the upcoming year as a Student Ambassador and the new experiences it will unravel.

 Nancy Te

Nancy Te
Nancy is in her last year of university pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce Cooperative Education degree with a major in Accounting and a minor in Marketing. Nancy has been actively involved with her community since a young age and has a special interest in entrepreneurship and social responsibility. She has been involved in various organizations such as Junior Achievement, AIESEC, and the University of Alberta Accounting Club and is currently a consultant for the School of Retailing Consulting Group. Nancy recently completed a co-op at Ernst & Young and plans to pursue her Certified Professional Accounting Designation after graduation. Her passion for traveling has sparked her to study abroad in the United Kingdom, France, and next on her list is to explore all corners of North America.   

 

Simona Teodorescu
Simona is in her third year of university pursuing a major in Finance and minor in Economics. She really enjoyed being involved in her first year; from attending Cohort events and Business Conferences, to competing in case competitions, and is very passionate about the Alberta School of Business and all the amazing opportunities it has to offer.  Simona is also a TA for Management Science 312, but when she needs a break from the books, her all-time favorite is planning trips with her friends and researching all the places they’ll hopefully travel to one day. Simona is excited to be a student ambassador, and is looking forward to sharing all her incredible experiences at the Alberta School of Business.

 

Juliet Verbeke
Juliet is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education student pursuing a major in Business Economics and Law and an Accounting minor. She recently completed an eight month work term at Western Economic Diversification Canada. She volunteers with the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and assists with the Snowflake Gala. She loves to travel, try out new restaurants, and attend Oilers games. Upon graduation, she hopes to work and travel internationally. She is very proud to be an Alberta School of Business Student Ambassador.


Alexandra Vu
Alexandra is currently in her fourth year and last semester at the Alberta School of Business. She is currently studying Accounting and Management Information Systems while pursuing a certificate in International Learning. During her time in the faculty, she has been highly involved in everything that there is to offer. She is currently the president of the Management Information System Club and has been previously associated with other clubs, such as the Alberta Not-for-Profit Association and the Next Generation Leadership Club. Last year, she participated in JDC West 2015 as a member of the MIS team as well as the University of Alberta CaseIT 2015 team. After graduation, she is planning on travelling abroad to Vietnam, Singapore, and Japan, pursuing her Chartered Professional Accountant designation as well as a Project Management Professional certification.

  Nelushi Wickramarachchi
Nelushi is in the third year of her Bachelor of Commerce Degree with a major in Human Resource Management and a minor in Psychology.  Upon graduation, she plans to obtain her CHRP designation and utilize her leadership and interpersonal skills in the future as a Human Resources Professional. Nelushi’s hobbies include painting, reading and writing. She is involved in her community and cherishes the experiences of working with children, mentoring them in sports events in the past. She has always been actively involved in sports and school activities, including being an Orientation Leader last year. She is eager to have yet another opportunity to represent the University of Alberta School of Business as a Student Ambassador and be able to share her university experience with others.
  Karen Xu
Karen is in her fourth year of studies at the Alberta School of Business pursuing her Bachelor of Commerce degree. With a major in Accounting and a minor in Operation Management, she hopes to achieve a CPA designation following graduation. Currently, Karen is involved with the Health and Wellness Movement as a project manager for Heighten Your Pure Energy events and is hoping to plan exciting free fitness sessions to create a stress release environment for university students. In addition, she is also a student ambassador representing University of Alberta Internationals to share and promote opportunities in studying abroad. Outside of school, Karen is also a piano teacher and likes to go dancing, running and skiing. Also, she is looking forward in study a year abroad in the United Kingdom in the upcoming semester. Karen is honoured and excited to represent the Alberta School of Business as a Student Ambassador!

 

Erik Hansen is third-year Accounting Major. He is looking for ways to get involved with the School of Business, and is excited to join the Student Ambassador Program. Outside of school, Erik is actively involved in sports; playing hockey during the winter, and lacrosse and golf during the spring and summer. During next summer, Erik will be participating in an internship with KPMG Calgary, and hopes to pursue his CA designation upon graduation in 2012.
