Student Ambassadors 2017/2018

  Ryan Amaral
Ryan is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student majoring in Business Economic and Law. He is currently involved in a variety of extracurricular activities such as volunteering at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre, being a mentor with the Alberta School of Business Mentorship Program, volunteering with the UAlberta USchool Program, participating in the Emerging Leaders Program, being a member of the Business Finance Association, and proudly now an Alberta School of Business Student Ambassador as well. Ryan is passionate about sports and athletics, and can often be found around a hockey rink, both playing and working, as he works with the campus rec team as a rec skate supervisor as well as working part time with the City of Edmonton at both hockey rinks and fitness centres. Academically, Ryan is very interested in all facets of both Canadian and international business law, and hopes to work towards gaining admission to law school and one day becoming a lawyer. He is extremely excited to take on the role of student ambassador and represent the Alberta School of Business!
  Jemima Balbastro
Jemima is a third year MIS student with a minor in Computer Science, and she's also part of the School of Business' Leadership Certificate. Jemima is currently pursuing a BTM and when she's not buried in a computer, Jemima loves getting involved in School of Business and community activities! In the past, Jemima has been a prominent member of several student groups and organizations such as the U of A Mixed Chorus, Arts for Young Stars, and the Business Students’ Association. Currently, she's also an executive on ANPA, SMO Club, works for the Standardized Patient Program for the Faculty of Medicine, and is a very committed volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House Charities. When she has spare time, you can find Jemima hanging with friends, watching Fine Arts shows or jamming out to karaoke!
   

Tiffany Banh
Tiffany Banh is a third year Marketing student with a minor in Accounting. She is pursuing her passion in the Marketing industry with a focus on Digital Marketing. With her ambitious personality, she has applied personal skills to help communities such as the U of A Campus and Community Recreation, Strathcona County and the University of Alberta Marketing Association with marketing efforts. Tiffany has also fulfilled her joy of travelling by immersing herself in Toronto’s tech hub through a work term with BlueCat. She gained essential skills that shaped the start of her career and allowed her to explore the city simultaneously! On her days off, you can find her nose in a book, being adventurous or catching up with friends and family.

   

Rachel Bokenfohr
Rachel is a fifth year Marketing major, Accounting minor and a student in the fifth cohort of the Alberta School of Business Leadership Certificate. She is involved in student governance as the Vice President of Events for the Business Students’ Association. Other organizations Rachel has been a part of are the Alberta International Business Competition, the University of Alberta Rotaract Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters When she’s not practicing with her JDC West marketing case team she can be found downhill skiing, water skiing, practicing yoga or in the audience of any play/musical/concert. If that fails, you can always find her by following the singing voice. In the future, Rachel plans to find a way to merge her love of marketing, consulting and her passion for the arts into a career while maintaining to give back to the community in the largest capacity possible. Rachel is thrilled to be a student ambassador to showcase what opportunities the Alberta School of Business has to offer!

 

Chantelle Bryce
As a fourth-year Accounting student, Chantelle is passionate about her involvement in the School of Business community and could not be more excited to be a student ambassador. She has taken on leadership roles in numerous student groups, including positions such as Gala Director on the Business Students’ Association, VP Academic for the inaugural Alberta International Business Competition, has been a Social and Accounting competitor for the Alberta JDC West team. Most recently, she was chosen to be the Co-Chairperson for the 52nd year of the Rocky Mountain Business Seminar. Chantelle has also represented the University of Alberta in several case competitions, the most notable being her second place win at the Royal Roads IUCC. Chantelle is also part of the Cooperative Education Program, having completed work terms at the Alberta Motor Association and KPMG, as well as the Leadership Certificate Program.



Destanee Charrois
Destanee is in the fourth and final year of her degree with a Human Resource Management Major and Marketing Minor, and could not be more excited to be a Student Ambassador! She has had many experiences while at the Alberta School of Business that she is proud of and happy to share. On one hand, Destanee has gone on two one-month exchanges to Italy and France, and while here in Alberta, she has participated in many business club activities and events. These include being a Volunteer Coordinator with JDC West 2017, a team member in several case competitions, and a delegate at both the Rocky Mountain Business Seminar and the Network of Empowered Women Conference. This year, Destanee will be reaching out to more than just business students to encourage their participation in the EDGE Business Competition as this club’s VP Marketing & Finance; a student representative on the University Teaching Awards Committee of the General Faculties Council; and an Employment Readiness Intern with Boyle Street Community Services who will help those who are unemployed find work. In other words, Destanee will be going out with a bang, and she will apply everything that she has learned from her past and current experiences on her way to achieving the CHRP designation and a career where she makes people feel engaged at work.

 

Rachel Day
Rachel is in her fifth and final year at the University of Alberta. After completing two years in the Faculty of Sciences, Rachel discovered her love of business and subsequently switched into the Alberta School of Business. She is currently completing a major in Business Economics and Law with a certificate in Interdisciplinary Leadership Studies. In the three years Rachel has been in the School of Business she has been involved with organizing the Rocky Mountain Business Seminar and has been an active member on the Business Students' Association Council. This year, she holds the position of VP Academic on the Business Students' Association Council. This means Rachel can pursue her passion of helping others grow and develop by providing student services and being responsible for student advocacy. Despite her major, Rachel is also interested in Strategic Management and Organization and will be following that interest as a member of the Alberta JDC West Human Resources Team. 


Francesca Dela Cruz
Francesca is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student, majoring in Marketing with a minor in Retailing and Services. She has been consistently active in leadership roles throughout her education and external community outreach programs. Currently, she is the Vice President for Events of the Philippine Students' Association and a Content Contributor for Lazy Faire Magazine. She was also heavily involved in various peer tutoring programs which allowed her to work with high school and university students. Last summer, she had an amazing chance to work with the in-store marketing team at the Hudson's Bay Company. In January 2018, she is extremely excited to be going to Lille, France for an exchange to study Luxury and Fashion Marketing at one of the top business schools in the world. She is proud to be a Student Ambassador representing the Alberta School of Business and to share her experiences, passion and involvement with the business community. 

 

Katie Fitzgerald
Katie is a third year Bachelor of Commerce student with a Major in Marketing. Her past summer job as a Business Analyst for the City of Edmonton provided her the opportunity to enhance her marketing skills by developing the communications plan for both the Canadian Open Data Summit and the Smart City Initiative. She has explored her interest within the entrepreneurial side of business by being involved in the Junior Achievement Company Program as a Program Advisor. This role allows her to build on her leadership and communication skills by helping guide the high school students through the program. She also stays active within her community by being a Duke of Edinburgh Award ambassador where she promotes the award program within her city by giving presentations to schools and mentoring youth that are currently working through the award themselves. Katie is looking forward to representing the Alberta School of Business at various events and lend a helping hand where is needed. 

 

Connor Hastey-Palindat
Connor is a Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education student pursuing an Accounting Major. Accompanying Connor’s education is his extra-curricular involvement with several student groups across campus. He currently serves as the Vice President External for the UAlberta Enactus chapter. In addition, he is involved with the Study Buddy tutoring program and is a mentor through the Business Students Association’s mentorship program. Connor will also be spending the winter term working with a large international public accounting firm. His interests include entrepreneurship and travelling. Having been given several opportunities by the Alberta School of Business, he is excited to become a Student Ambassador and give back while sharing his passion for business and entrepreneurship with the local community.

 

Chandler Holyoak
Chandler is a fourth year Human Resource Management major, whose current minor is Finance. On a whim, Chandler applied to the Alberta School of Business when he was studying at the Augustana Campus in Camrose, and hasn’t looked back since being accepted. With a passion for people Chandler jumped right into the Alberta School of Business community and tried to get involved in anything and everything. Over the last two years he has been part of the Business Students’ Association (Twice), the JDC West Organizing Committee, the 5 Days for the Homeless Team, and is currently a part of the Alberta International Business Competitions’ Organizing Committee. Chandler is interested in expanding his knowledge in every aspect of Human Resources Management but is particularly interested in Staffing. He is looking forward to meeting all different kinds of people and hear about what their goals and ambitions are, including prospective student and alumni. 

 

Kwangyeol Jung
Kwangyeol is in his fourth year of University, pursuing his Bachelor of Commerce degree with an Accounting major. He is planning to pursue a CPA designation once he completes his degree. He was involved in the study abroad program and spent one year at the Yonsei University in South Korea as an exchange student. His unique work experience includes two years in the South Korean Army Engineering Corps as a sergeant and also as a squad leader. Some of his interests include travelling and playing soccer. He is also very interested in the global aspect of international trade. As an Alberta School of Business Ambassador, he is looking forward to have a great experience and is excited to share his passion about the School as an Ambassador with students, alumni and the business community.

  Britney Jung
Britney is in her fourth year at the University of Alberta, majoring in Accounting. She is a US CPA candidate and she will also pursue her Canadian CPA designation after she graduates. She loves getting involved and enjoys meeting new people. Britney was an Event Chair at the Campus Unicef, a President at the Korean Business Students’ Association and a Language Facilitator at the Student Volunteer Campus Community.  Also, she volunteered as a Tax Reporter at the Annual CVITP Tax Clinic and as a Volunteer Leader at the Deep Freeze Festival. Currently, she is participating in the BSA’s mentorship program as a Mentor and the UAHRMA’s mentorship program as a Mentee. In addition, this year, she marks and proctors introductory accounting courses exams. Outside of school, she travels by herself, cooks and takes pictures with her film camera. She is thrilled to represent the Alberta School of Business as a Student Ambassador and looks forward to enjoying great opportunities.
  Ty Maccagno
Ty is a third year Bachelor of Commerce Cooperative Education student, majoring in Finance and minoring in Business Law. Ty recently finished an eight-month co-op placement at Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) where she worked alongside the treasury team. Currently she is completing her final Co-op term at RBC Dominion Securities where she works under two portfolio managers. Aside from finance and business, Ty is also very interested in fashion. Last summer she worked in New York City with designer Naeem Kahn as a business intern. Her goal is to one day combine her business knowledge with her love of fashion. In her spare time, Ty enjoys working out, spending time with friends and family, skiing, reading, cooking and Netflix. Ty is very excited to be a student ambassador this year, and looks forward to sharing her positive experience at the Alberta School of Business.  
  Lauren McCubbing
Lauren is a first year Bachelor of Commerce After-Degree student, majoring in Accounting. Upon completion of her first degree, a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biology, Lauren had the opportunity to work for a law office where she performed numerous accounting duties and found this to be her calling. Upon graduation, Lauren intends to pursue a CPA designation. Lauren is also a competitive triathlete, a member of the University of Alberta Accounting Club, and is interested in sustainability initiatives and how accounting can contribute to their implementation and success. Lauren is looking forward to the opportunity to contribute her diverse experiences to the position and represent the Alberta School of Business as a student ambassador.  

Alexandra Mills is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student majoring in International Business with a Certificate in International Learning. Alongside being a Student Ambassador for the Alberta School of Business, Alexandra also represents the University of Alberta as a member of the UAlberta Ambassador Program. Having spent the previous semester studying abroad in France, Alexandra uses this knowledge of student exchanges to help incoming exchange students navigate the School of Business through the Business Exchange Association Buddy Network. More locally, she is also a Business Student’s Association Mentor for first year business students. Alexandra is incredibly excited to begin an internship placement with Pepsico Foods Canada this coming January. This position builds towards her goal of working in the field of International Business Development, with a focus on brand entry into new markets. Returning for her second year of the School of Business Student Ambassador Program, Alexandra hopes to share her passion for the Bachelor of Commerce program and all that it entails with those she meets through this volunteer opportunity. 


Tylor Murray
Tylor Murray is an After-Degree Commerce student, majoring in Business Law and Economics. Having completed a Science degree in Math and Economics, he aspires to be involved in business development or analytics. With this BCom degree, Tylor is involved in the Cooperative Education program and excited to see where this opportunity will take him. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, photography and relaxing with a good book. As well as being a School of Business Student Ambassador, he is currently involved in the on-campus awareness campaign - 5 Days of Homeless. Tylor is excited to represent the School of Business and eager to share his experiences.



Jasneet Sangha
Jasneet is a third year Bachelor of Commerce student, majoring in Accounting and minoring in Finance. She currently serves as a Community Outreach Coordinator for Enactus UAlberta. In addition, she is involved in the Emerging Leaders Program and will be participating in the Alberta Student Leadership Summit this January. Jasneet is also a mentor in the Business Students Association’s mentorship program. Her interests include giving back to the community, travelling and cheering on our very own, Edmonton Oilers! Throughout her involvement within the School of Business and the Business community, she has learnt a lot about the different opportunities that are made available to her.  She is very passionate about the School of Business and is excited to share her learning experiences with others.

Kiran Sokhal
Kiran is a third-year Bachelor of Commerce Cooperative Education student pursuing an Accounting major. Having spent the past summer working for a large non-profit organization, she is passionate about getting involved both in School and in the local community. She is currently a Peter Lougheed Leadership Scholar and volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sister Boys and Girls Club of Canada as a Graduation Big. Her previous campus involvement includes being a Project Member for Enactus University of Alberta, along with volunteering for 5 Days for the Homeless and the Business Students’ Association. She is excited to expand her work experience by starting her first co-op term this winter with a large national accounting firm. She could not be more eager to be a Student Ambassador this year, and share all the wonderful experiences she has had at the Alberta School of Business with others.

Erica Tosto
Erica is a third year undergraduate student at the Alberta School of Business. She is majoring in Human Resource Management and minoring in Business Economics and Law. She has a keen interest in international business and has plans to further her knowledge of the international landscape by travelling to Italy to study abroad next semester. When she is not in the library studying for her next exam, Erica devotes her time to her local ringette association as both a player and a coach. She has been playing the sport for over 13 years and has been coaching for seven. This year, she is coaching a U16 team and is eager to act as a mentor to these young athletes. In her spare time, Erica loves to watch movies of all genres and is always looking for the next great Pinterest recipe to try. Erica is excited to participate in the School of Business Student Ambassador Program this year and share her passion for the Business program. 
 

Jenny Tse
Jenny is in her fourth year of studies, with one more year to go. Her major is in Human Resources with a minor in Accounting.  While Jenny is originally from British Columbia, she spent her last summer in Edmonton at a summer internship as an Accounting Clerk, which turned into a part-time job over the school year. Last year, she was involved in UAHRMA as a Director of Events; she enjoyed helping students discover more about HR. When Jenny is not working or studying, you can find her binge watching TV shows or at the gym. She is a lover of all foods especially bakery sweets. She is always looking for new TV shows to watch or places to try. She is excited to represent and be a part of the Alberta School of Business through the Student Ambassador Program. She is looking forward to making new connections, working with good people, and creating and sharing these experiences!

  Tyler Vandermeer
Tyler is currently in his 3rd year of study in the Bachelor of Commerce program majoring in Accounting and minoring in Finance. Tyler’s extra-curricular activities include being a part of the Golden Bears Golf team for the past three years, along with being involved in the community. Other interests include playing hockey, softball and volleyball. Tyler is excited to represent the University of Alberta School of Business through the student ambassador program this year.
 

Pearl Emily Venpin
Pearl, also known as Emily, is currently in her third year in the Bachelor of Commerce, Cooperative Education degree, with a major in Accounting and a minor in Management Information System. She currently serves as a member in the Campus food bank and Campus Unicef, where she loves to volunteer and make new connections. Aside from school, Emily currently teaches swimming lessons and first aid, CPR classes. She loves to spend time with her family, eating delicious food and chatting with her friends. She is honored to be representing the School of Business this year as a Student Ambassador.

 

Nina Wang
Nina is in her final semester at the Alberta School of Business pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Accounting. Recently, Nina returned from her summer finance student internship with Women’s Venture Fund in New York. She is also incredibly excited to begin her full-time CPA Articling Student position with BDO Canada this coming January, where she completed her last work term as part of the Cooperative Education Program. With her passion for travelling and the opportunities to study abroad through Ualberta’s Exchange Program, Nina made the most of her academic journey by studying abroad twice, first in London, UK, and then Sydney, Australia.  Aside from her volunteer job with the University of Alberta International Student Services, Nina is also a proctor and marker for ACCTG 311 and ACCTG 414. She is excited to represent the School of Business as a Student Ambassador and hopes to share her experiences with Alumni and prospective Business students. 

 

 

Paige Wolfe
Paige was born and raised in the small, northern Alberta hamlet of Guy; she is currently in her fourth and final year of her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Finance and a minor in Accounting. She completed the first two years of her degree at MacEwan University – leaving on a high note after earning a spot on the Dean’s List. During her time at MacEwan, Paige joined the MacEwan University Commerce Club and continues to hold the position of Director of Marketing with the club. In her second year with the club they were awarded Club of the Year – the most prestigious award a club can earn at the University. Additionally, she holds a spot on the MacEwan University Chapter of the Golden Key International Honours Society, membership which is awarded to the top 15% of students in each faculty. When Paige isn’t busy with her studies, she is employed as an Operations Specialist with Waste Management. In addition to school and work, she enjoys playing basketball with her team, attending barre and soar classes, running with the November Project tribe, and cheering on the Edmonton Oilers. Paige is elated to have been chosen to represent the University of Alberta as a Student Ambassador for this academic school year.

Erik Hansen is third-year Accounting Major. He is looking for ways to get involved with the School of Business, and is excited to join the Student Ambassador Program. Outside of school, Erik is actively involved in sports; playing hockey during the winter, and lacrosse and golf during the spring and summer. During next summer, Erik will be participating in an internship with KPMG Calgary, and hopes to pursue his CA designation upon graduation in 2012.

Karen Xu is currently in her final year of studies at the University of Alberta Business School majoring in Accounting and minoring in Operations Management. Recently, Karen returned from her Study Abroad Program at University of Leeds. At the School of Business, she is the Teaching Assistant of two Financial Accounting courses. Karen is an avid traveller and enjoys Latin and Swing dancing during her spare time. She is a part of the Swing-Out Edmonton dance club and is participating in the Sizzle and Swing performance team to take her Swing dancing passion to the next level. She is excited to represent the School of Business as a Student Ambassador and hopes to share her experiences with Alumni and prospective Business students.
