Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)

About Bachelor of Commerce

Did you know that the Alberta School of Business offers a variety of BCom programs and majors?

Studying with one of the largest Bachelor of Commerce programs in the country gives you some distinct advantages. At the U of A, size means choice, opportunity, and flexibility.

You can focus your studies in one of our 16 different majors.  We have majors which focus in a traditional field such as Accounting, Marketing, Finance, and Human Resources. Or you can branch out into some of the unique and non-traditional majors such as Business Economics & Law, East Asian Studies, Entrepreneurship & Family Enterprise, Retailing & Services, and Management Information Systems.

We are proud of our award-winning professors. We have four winners of the prestigious 3M Award for Excellence in the University Teaching - more than any other business school in Canada. Several others have been honored with the U of A's Rutherford Award for outstanding classroom teaching. The Alberta School of Business draws on the expertise and experience of our professors and researchers in every area of business.

In the classroom, you can expect to find professors who challenge you to put ideas to work. The topic of discussion might be the latest concepts emerging from some of the world-class research or some thoughts and questions you've gathered through your own study and experience. Whatever the theme or the approach, you can be sure to have some of the best minds in business helping you along the way. Our professors are also approachable. You will find they are always interested in a good question, an interesting idea or an intriguing problem. Team and project work is a strong component of all of our classes, with our professors often playing a role as coach, mentor, moderator and information resource.

With such a wide base of expertise in the Faculty and a broad and diverse student body, you can always find people who share your interests and new opportunities to work towards your personal career goals. All of these factors combined creates a degree program that is well-rounded and comprehensive, and a learning experience that puts you in touch with the latest ideas and developments in any area of Business. Our BCom alumni are valued for the skills they have acquired through a variety of core and elective coursework that promotes the Learning Goals of the BCom program.
