Choosing to major or minor in Retailing and Services provides you with the academic fundamentals for an interesting, dynamic and fast-paced career. Building on the strong foundation of the Bachelor of Commerce program, the retailing curriculum draws on the expertise of a world class faculty and exceptionally strong industry connections to train the next generations of retail executives. Students graduating with a major or minor in retailing will be well positioned for success with a solid understanding of these fundamentals:
- Consumer behavior and decision-making
- Strategic and tactical pricing
- Commercial real estate management
- The retail buying process, merchandising and category management
- Managing the customer experience and the process of delivering service quality
The program is designed to be a mix of theory and hands-on learning. Executives from the retail industry visit the school on a regular basis to meet with students and speak in our classrooms. In addition, retail majors and minors have the opportunity to participate in a paid summer internship with one of our partner organizations, while also conducting a project under academic supervision.
Retail is the engine that drives the global economy. It is the sophisticated business operations of the world's largest (and smallest) companies. Retailers are looking for talented university graduates who can lead their organizations into a fast-paced, technology-drive and customer-oriented future. Our graduates work in a wide variety of retail environments from fashion to grocery with job descriptions that range from buying and supply chain management to accounting, advertising and consulting. Retail majors and minors are also well positioned for franchise or entrepreneurial ventures in the retailing and services sector. The School of Retailing annually hosts two career fairs and a number of career information sessions that introduce students to employers looking to hire our graduates.
