BUEC 444 Study Tours

Study Tour to EUROPE (Germany/Italy) - BUEC 444 LEC 850, #81002

The focus of this study tour is Family Business and the tour will be a combined BCom/MBA tour. The Family Business European Study Tour will be led by Professor Vern Glaser.

Tentative Tour Dates

May 3 - May 16, 2020

Eligibility

The European Study Tour is open to all BCom students who are in good academic standing and who have room to take the course in their program requirements.

  • Successful completion of the Europe study tour and related academic components is worth 3 credits towards a BCom degree.

Tour Cost

The approximate cost is $4,500 for the study tour portion**. After your first deposit is made there will be a payment schedule. Every attempt will be made to secure additional funding to bring the individual costs down if possible.

Tour costs cover travel costs such as airfare, shared accommodations, transfers, activities and some meals.

BCom students will receive $2,000 to off-set tour costs from the Undergraduate Program Office. Payment will be made to the Master's Programs Office on behalf of students participating.

Eligible students may also request funding through the International Activity Fund. Consideration will be based on demonstrated financial need. The deadline to apply is November 29, 2019.

**The course portion (BUEC 444) is scheduled in the Winter term and standard University of Alberta tuition and fees for a 3-credit course apply in addition to the above tour costs. All costs and funding are subject to change.

VISA Requirement

Please note, if you hold a passport other than Canadian, you may require a visa to enter Germany. Please refer to information available through the German Consulate General.

Should a travel visa be required, applications must be made in-person in Vancouver, BC which would be an additional expense. If this is the case for you, please ensure that you factor in that additional cost. We will assist with the required paperwork. Study Tour to JAPAN - BUEC 444 LEC 852, #97789

The Study Tour to Japan combines lectures and assignments at the University of Alberta during the Winter 2020 term with a 12-day on-site study tour of Tokyo, Nagoya and Kyoto in May. During the study tour students will participate in company visits and lectures at partner universities as well as some cultural and sightseeing activities in order to gain first-hand experience and understanding of the unique business culture and context of Japan. The in-class lectures will be led by Professor Edy Wong and the tour will be led by Mic McCollum who has worked and studied in Japan.

The approximate cost is $6,000 for the study tour portion**. After your first deposit is made there will be a payment schedule. Every attempt will be made to secure additional funding to bring the individual costs down if possible.

Tour costs cover travel costs such as airfare, transportation, shared accommodations, transfers, activities and some meals.

BCom students will receive $3,500 from the Yuichi Kurimoto Memorial Award directly to their UofA account in the Winter 2020 term to off-set tour costs.

Eligible students may also request funding through the International Activity Fund. Consideration will be based on demonstrated financial need. The deadline to apply is November 29, 2019.
