The goal of this course is to introduce students to energy trading. Trading takes place across the energy spectrum of oil, refined products, natural gas, electricity and emissions. The trades can be physical or financial. Students will develop an understanding of commodities, the instruments available for trading, as well as the other aspects that are important, including risk management and regulation. The course will include a virtual trading game where the students will participate in trades and track their profit/loss.
Pre-requisite: FIN 301 and FIN 413. Open to third and fourth year students only.
Registration in the course is manual through the Undergraduate Program Office via email. If you meet the current registration restrictions, please send an email on your enrollment date identifying the following:
- Your UofA ID Number
- Your Name
- Your Major
- When you completed FIN 301 and FIN 413
- Which section of FIN 488 you are interested in taking - LEC A1 or LEC B1
Qualified students will be registered in the order received. Once the course is full the Undergraduate Program Office will start a wait list based on the emails that are received.
Please note the course is restricted to Finance Majors, Finance Honors, Finance Minors, Accounting Honors and NREE Majors until July 31st. All other qualified BCom students will be considered for registration after August 1.
