The UAlberta MBA in Fort McMurray is designed to allow students to continue to work while increasing their knowledge, skills, and confidence to become leaders within the energy resources sector. While the main admission requirements across all of our MBA programs are the same, there are a few subtle differences in the admission requirements for the UAlberta MBA in Fort McMurray. The academic components of an application are important, but we do take a fairly holistic view of each application and put considerable emphasis on professional and personal experience as well.


Admission Criteria

To be considered for admission to the UAlberta Fort McMurray MBA program, you would need to meet one of the following:

  1. An undergraduate or higher lever degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out 4.0 (or equivalent) AND a minimum of two years of professional work experience, OR
  2. An undergraduate degree with a GPA below 3.0 (or equivalent) AND a minimum of five years of professional work experience AND a GMAT score of 550 or higher, OR
  3. A minimum of 15 years of professional work experience AND a GMAT score of 550 or higher.

Entrance Requirements

As part of your application to the UAlberta MBA in Fort McMurray, you are required to satisfy the following requirements:

Undergraduate Degree

Applicants should hold a four-year undergraduate degree from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or B over your last two years of study. For individuals with International education, please see our equivalent academic requirements. Candidates who do not hold an undergraduate degree but have 15+ years of experience can be considered for admission.

In completing the online application, You will be required to scan and upload each page (front and back) of your most up-to-date official academic documents in PDF format. Once you have received your official letter of admission, official academic documents must be sent to the University.

Work Experience
Applicants should have at least two years of post-graduation professional experience. Depending on the breadth and depth of the experience, we may also be able to consider some co-op experience towards the professional experience requirements. Your application should include a résumé with sufficient details of your professional work experience. Education, volunteer experience, accomplishments achieved at work, and any extracurricular activities should also be highlighted.
Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)

The GMAT or GRE is required for all applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution or have an undergraduate degree with less than a 3.0 / 4.0 GPA. For individuals with an international background, we will review your background to see if you qualify for a GMAT exemption.

The GMAT is a standardized assessment required by graduate business schools to evaluate applicants. The exam measures your verbal, mathematical, integrated reasoning, and analytical writing skills.

** We are aware that GMAT test-taking has been suspended in a number of locations. If you are unable to register for a test date prior to our application deadline, please reach out via our contact form.

Letters of Reference
Candidates are required to submit two letters of reference. These assist the School in evaluating the candidate's managerial, administrative, and academic skills. Letters of reference should be obtained from current or past supervisors. In the online application, you will be asked to provide the name and email address for your referees. Referees can complete our reference letter form and upload this into the online application system.

Statement of Intent
A statement of intent, approximately one to two pages in length, must be included with your application. The statement should outline why you are interested in the UAlberta MBA in Fort McMurray, what your expectations are for the course of study, and how this degree relates to your career goals.

How to Apply

Applicants are required to apply online through the Faculty of Graduate Studies website. The application fee of $100 can be paid online.

Supporting documents must be uploaded into the online application system. Once you have received your official letter of admission, official academic documents must be submitted.
