Master of Financial Management

The Master of Financial Management in China has been approved by the Ministry of Education of China in 2012, and will be offered by the University of Alberta, a famous Canadian University, in partnership with Xian Jiaotong University.The Master of Financial Management (MFM) is designed for individuals who aspire to the financial leader of a firm including the role of VP Finance, Controller, Treasurer or Chief Financial Officer in large private and public sector organizations, particularly those with a global orientation. The MFM delivers the skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful financial management professional at all levels of an organization.The Master of Financial Management (China) is a globally oriented program for China taught by Canadian Professors. The program will be start around May 2013, in Shanghai and Shenzhen.  The curriculum of the program consists of 13 courses taught over a 14 month period.  Courses will normally be delivered in intensive two weekend sessions in China; the integrative capstone course, Strategic Financial Management, would be held after completion of other course work.  The final course and graduation celebration will be offered in Edmonton, Canada.  Graduates will obtain the degree of Master of Financial Management (MFM) from the University of Alberta, and will enjoy membership in a global alumni network.

Admission Requirements

Successful applicants to the Master of Financial Management will meet the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate degree with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 80% or greater over the last 2 years of full-time study
  • English Language Proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL or PTE)
  • Ideal candidates will have 5 or more years of professional experience in a financial management role. Candidates with less than 5 years of experience, but relevant current employment, are encouraged to contact our office directly to determine eligibility.

Application Requirements

  1. Complete the official University of Alberta online application.
  2. Official transcripts and degree certificates from all academic institutions attended. We require both original language and translated versions.
  3. Three (3) letters of reference: these assist in evaluating the candidate's managerial, administrative, and academic skills. Letters of reference should be obtained from professional and academic sources, with at least one from your current or past supervisor. Referees are asked to complete our standard referee form.
  4. A 1-2 page statement of intent outlining why you are applying to the MFin (Mgmt) program, what your expectations are with respect to the course of study, and how the degree relates to your career goals.
  5. A updated resume outlining professional experience.
  6. Official GMAT score
  7. Official English language proficiency test score (can be waived with successful interview)
