Why Real Estate Education?

Recognizing both the need and the opportunity for growth in this critical area of business education and engagement, the Alberta School of Business and the real estate community partnered together with a common mission to "raise the bar" for real estate education in Alberta. The Real Estate curriculum at the Alberta School of Business works to provide real estate education for builders of communities recognizing that anyone in any career must share responsibility for our "built" environment and the role it plays in our daily lives.

OUR VISION

To be recognized for quality in real estate education and research in Canada and globally

NAIOP Battle of the Prairies

Team Elite from the Real Estate Program of the Alberta School of Business defeated the University of Calgary and the University of Manitoba in a real estate development case competition coordinated by NAIOP Edmonton in the spring of 2023.

The competition focused on the Baccarat site, a one-block parcel of land owned by Katz Group Real Estate directly east of Rogers Place. Rayyan Hudda, Christelle Perena, Lukas Haberman, Ana Ong and Cody Miner from Professor David Dale-Johnson's real estate development class presented their proposal for the highest and best use of the site to adjudicators and city builders Thursday afternoon and evening. Class members worked together with the presenters during the semester to analyze multiple options for the site.

This course is like a capstone for the Real Estate Certificate in the BCom program or the Real Estate Stream in the MBA program.  It offers an opportunity for the student to pull together much of what they have learned in their other real estate and business coursework. It involves a real development opportunity and a real client - in this case the Katz Group. And it is a competition with students in real estate programs at other universities. It is true learning by doing and while doing the students have the opportunity to interact with subject matter experts (SMEs) as well as adjudicators during the final presentation. Many students describe this as their single best learning experience in their degree program.
