The Alberta School of Business is home to specialized centres and institutes that are dedicated to excellence in research, outreach and education as well as fostering an important connection to the business community.

  • Alberta Business Family Institute (ABFI)

    The Alberta Business Family Institute at the Alberta School of Business assists families engaged in a business through transformational educational programs based on research. We seek to help business families and their professional advisors gain a better understanding of the unique issues they face and provide them with practical tools to allow them to make meaningful change in their lives and businesses.

  • Canadian Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CCCSR)

    Social impact, environmental sensitivity and the economics of community building are three pillars that form the framework for the new Canadian Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (CCCSR). This research-intensive centre uses creativity and innovation to push the boundaries of business in a way that encourages business leaders to consider their diverse stakeholders and improve the quality of life experienced by the communities they live and operate in.

  • Centre for Applied Business Research in Energy and the Environment (CABREE)

    The Centre for Applied Business Research in Energy and the Environment (CABREE) is an independent and non-partisan research centre in the University of Alberta’s Alberta School of Business. Our mandate is to perform economic and business analysis to inform public policy debates on issues of vital importance to Alberta and to Canada as a whole. Our research efforts focus on energy markets, electricity restructuring and climate change issues. Within each area, we explore policy-driven issues and highlight the linkages between energy and the environment. Our analysis draws from business economics, finance and quantitative modeling, as well as from associated disciplines.

  • Centre for Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise (CEFE)

    Family business is a dominant organizational form world-wide with unique challenges and rewards. The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise seeks to discover and disseminate knowledge relative to the management of family enterprise, particularly in the contexts of entrepreneurialism and internationalization.

  • Centre for Excellence in Operations (CEO)

    The goal of the Centre for Excellence in Operations (CEO) is to create a greater awareness of the field of operations management and operations research among students, academics and industry at large. Acting as a liaison between the university and the business community, the CEO enhances the interaction between these parties in order to explore opportunities for operational improvements and to enable the exchange of ideas.

  • School of Retailing (SOR)

    Formed in 2006, the School of Retailing at the Alberta School of Business allow students to declare either majors or minors in retailing with their Bachelor of Commerce degrees.

  • Technology Commercialization Centre (TCC)

    The Technology Commercialization Centre (TCC) aims to assist technological innovation and commercialization by supporting the development of fundamental knowledge about technology processes through scholarly research; fostering connections between university research and industry; stimulating technology entrepreneurship through partnerships with key stakeholders such as TEC Edmonton; and expanding our talent pool of managers and entrepreneurially-minded individuals that have a passion for and deep knowledge of key scientific and technological issues related to areas such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, biomedical devices, computing and communications.
