BDA Events

The BDA hosts a wide range of events, including the Student Research Conference, the Annual General Meeting, Lunch & Learn Professional Development events, and fun social events.

During the student research conference, all students in the PhD program come together to share ideas and celebrate their research. Every year, one student from each department gives a presentation while students in 2nd year and above makes a poster for the conference. We also invite faculty members to give panel sessions to cover topics such as job market advice, research idea development, teaching experiences, networking, and so on.

The BDA also holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the fall. All PhD students are invited to come and meet with the executive members to discuss what the BDA has done in the past year and what the BDA hopes to achieve in the coming year. The AGM gives students a chance to voice what they think is important to their PhD experience.

To facilitate knowledge sharing, the BDA organizes workshops during lunch time to address student needs. So far, we've invited peer students, faculty members, and professionals to share knowledge and experiences of teaching, software, academic writing, and job market experiences. These events also count toward students' Professional Development Hours, which facilitates students' completion of their Professional Development program.

We also have a lot of fun events for students to build their social network, make friends, and relax, such as new PhD student welcome parties, holiday celebrations, BBQ, board game nights, and Zumba classes. We wish for all the students to have a fun, healthy, and productive PhD life.
