Camp fYrefly is a four-day individual/social learning and leadership camp that provides a safe and supportive environment where youth across differences in sexual orientation and gender identity can enhance their personal and social resilience. Camp fYrefly started in Edmonton in 2004. The camp expanded to Saskatchewan in 2009, alternating annually between Saskatoon and Regina. The Calgary camp started in 2013. Now Camp fYrefly is coming to Ontario in Summer 2017. Dr. Spencer J. Harrison is Camp Director for the Ontario camp, which is a joint venture of the School of Education & Professional Learning, Trent University and the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services, University of Alberta. The fYrefly acronym stands for fostering, youth, resilience, energy, fun, leadership, yeah!
The very first Ontario Camp will run July 13 - 16, 2017
We would like to acknowledge the integral support of Dr. Jacqueline Muldoon, Provost and Vice-President Academic at Trent University, and Dr. Catherine D. Bruce, Dean of the School of Education & Professional Learning at Trent University for their ongoing support enabling this initiative.
