Intramural Sports are sport leagues run by students for students, staff, Faculty and community members. Intramurals are an opportunity to play with friends - old and new - in an environment that celebrates teamwork, mutual respect and, most of all, fun! Our mission is to improve student life through sport, plain and simple!

The Intramurals Recreation Facilitator position is responsible for leading the implementation of certain Sport Leagues, Tournaments, and Special Events that are assigned to each Recreation Facilitator! There are many different aspects that go into running a successful league and the Recreation Facilitator will have a chance to oversee all of these, such as; scheduling, staff management, program planning, promotion, and much more. We will look to use the Recreation Facilitator’s current skill set to make our leagues the best they can be, while helping to develop new skills along the way.

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Provide customer service
  • Provide day to day administrative assistance in coordinating all aspects of CCR Intramural programs
  • Build positive rapport and connections with participants
  • Program planning, promotion, implementation and evaluation
  • Assist in the scheduling and the monitoring of intramural leagues and events
  • Assists with program participation statistics, program evaluation documents and reports
  • Assist with special events set up, takedown, oversight and execution
  • Guide, train and mentor casual staff and practicum students
  • Organize and attend meetings as required; serve on committees as required; such as IM Council and IM Council Committees
  • Perform administrative or office duty tasks
  • Ensure the safety of all participants at all times
  • Adhere to set policies and implement operational guidelines and procedures
  • Facilitate appropriate facility and equipment usage and adherence to rules
  • Respond to emergencies
  • Serve as a CCR ambassador
  • Adhere to and implement Campus and Community Recreation policies and procedures in a fair, prudent and professional manner


  • $16.06/hour for 12-15 hours/week
  • Estimated contract dates August 27, 2022 - April 30, 2023


  • The selected applicants need to be enrolled at the University of Alberta in the 2022-2023 academic year as the Recreation Facilitator positions are Student Peer Educator positions
  • Excellent organization, communication (oral and written), interpersonal and time-management skills
  • Demonstrate positive leadership qualities
  • Must be able to work cohesively with a team as well as independently
  • Experience with customer service and conflict resolution
  • A dynamic individual who is eager and enthusiastic and is able to motivate his/her peers to participate in our programs
  • Demonstrate effective communication with participants, casual staff, and other colleagues
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team
  • Foster and support diversity and inclusion within our Intramural Programming

Required Certifications:

  • Standard First Aid Level ‘C’ certification
  • Level C CPR

Mandatory Event Dates:

  • RecStock - September 2022
  • Find What Moves You (Various Offerings)
  • Turkey Trot (October 2022)
  • Red Eye Games - November 2022 and March 2023

If selected, candidates MUST be available to attend the following training dates:

  • Saturday, August 27 OR Sunday, August 28: casual staff orientation (6 hours)
  • Monday, August 29 – Wednesday, August 31: recreation facilitator training (24 hours)
  • Sunday, January 8, 2023: winter retreat (8 hours)
