Compensation: starting rate $16.63/hour
Hours: 12-15 hours a week

Reporting to the Student-Led Activities Program Supervisor, with direct support from the Intramural Sports Program Coordinator, the Club Sports Program Recreation Facilitator position is responsible for supporting and assisting in the delivery of the Club Sports Programs. The Club Sports Recreation Facilitator works on a team, evenly distributing club sports programs across their positions. They are the first point of contact for our Club Sports Program student Executives. Campus & Community Recreation is committed to supporting the physical, mental, and social well-being of students, staff, faculty, and community members through recreation, sport, and physical activity. This position will provide invaluable experience for anyone interested in the area of Sport and Recreation; an opportunity to build and develop yourself as a leader and manager.

Position Responsibilities

With guidance and support from the Student-Led Activities Program Supervisor and Club Sports Program Coordinator, this position will:

  • Support approximately 23 Club Sports Programs
  • Be the first point of contact for general club communications including inquiries, requests, etc.
  • Assist in the supervision, training, financial management, administrative support, and evaluation of all aspects of each club and its student leadership (Executive) team
  • Maintain professional lines of communication with clubs, usually through email but not limited to
  • Provide on-site, in-person management and supervision at various Club Sports practices, games and special events
  • Attend mandatory Recreation Facilitator meetings, training / orientation sessions, and promotional opportunities
  • Organize necessary meetings, orientation, and/or training with Club Executive
  • Adhere to, and implement Campus & Community Recreation policies, procedures, and protocols in a fair, prudent, and professional manner
  • Serve as a Campus & Community Recreation and University of Alberta Ambassador while at work and away or when on or off duty
  • Deliver quality and excellent customer service
  • Professionally respond, with support and guidance from the Program Coordinator and/or Supervisor, to club Code of Conduct / dispute issues and conflict resolution
  • Contribute to the team environment of the Club Sports Program and the Campus & Community Recreation as a whole
  • Attend mandatory Recreation Facilitator meetings, training / orientation sessions, and promotional opportunities
  • Serve as a Campus & Community Recreation and University of Alberta Ambassador while at work and away or when on or off duty
  • Assist the Program Coordinator and/or Program Supervisor upon request

Working Conditions 

Physical Demands:

  • Assist with set-up and take-down of equipment
  • Providing First Aid as needed

Work Environment: 

  • In-person, on-campus
  • Indoor and outdoor environment
  • May work in extreme conditions on a limited basis (snow and cold temperatures, sun and hot temperatures)
  • Noise is expected during game play
  • Areas may be slippery (pool deck, ice rink), or muddy (outdoor fields, diamonds) etc.

Qualifications/Expectations:

  • Selected applicants need to be enrolled at the University of Alberta in the 2023-2024 academic year as a full-time student
  • Be available to work flexible hours including some evenings, occasional weekends, and daytime hours (school breaks, statutory holidays, exams are off)
  • Must be able to work cohesively with a team as well as independently
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate positive leadership qualities
  • Experience with customer service and conflict resolution
  • A dynamic individual who is eager and enthusiastic and is able to motivate his/her peers to participate in our programs
  • Must be goal-oriented and take initiative
  • Presents a professional appearance and attitude
  • Knowledge of sport, recreation, wellness programs and/or event management is an asset
  • Knowledge of computers and web-based programs is an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid (within the last 3 years) and CPR C (within the last year) certification
