Compensation: starting rate $18.29/hour
Benefits: 4% vacation pay, 3.46% stat pay; 1.5 premium
Hours: 35-40 hours a week: Hours are variable and flexible: generally weekdays 9-5 / 8-4 however some evenings and weekends may be required.

Intramural Sports Programs are leagues and special events run by students for students, staff, faculty and community members. Intramurals are an opportunity to play with friends―old and new―in an environment that celebrates teamwork, mutual respect and, most of all, fun! Our mission is to improve student life through sport, plain and simple!
Recreation Facilitators are student leadership positions who span across all areas of the Campus and Community Recreation Team. Campus & Community Recreation (CCR) offers programs, services and facilities aimed to meet the needs and interests of the broad range of communities that we serve. The role of CCR is to support our communities (students, staff, Faculty and community members) to explore and enhance their physical, mental, emotional well-being through physical and social activity. We strongly believe in the power of recreational activities to support these needs. CCR is more than just a source of activity and event opportunities, it is also an excellent source of employment training and experience.
Reporting to the Student-Led Activities Program Supervisor, with direct support from Intramural Sports Programs Recreation Facilitators and Intramural Sports Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for leading the implementation of our intramural sport leagues and special events. There are many different aspects that go into running a successful program and the Recreation Facilitator will have a chance to experience and assist in all of these, such as; program development, promotion, staff leadership, scheduling. and risk management.

With the support of the CCR Full Time Staff and our student Recreation Facilitators, this position will gain:
- Experience in customer service
- Experience in event management, including program development, promotion, implementation, risk mitigation, and assessment
- Experience in hiring, guiding, training, and mentoring student staff
- Increased knowledge of sport and recreation administration
- Development of personal skills, including leadership, problem-solving, conflict management, effective communication, teamwork, and organization
- Increased knowledge of Intelli recreation management software, google drive, and web-based programs.
Position Responsibilities
With guidance and support the Intramural & Club Sports Supervisor and Intramural Sports Program Coordinator, this position will:
Summer League & Special Event Program Planning and Management
- Plan, organize and execute intramural leagues and special events
- Develop and/or update league schedules, rulebooks, and communication templates for intramural leagues and special events
- Support hiring, training, and scheduling league and special event part-time staff
- Ensure all participants have a safe and enjoyable experience
- Recommend and develop changes and updates to policies, procedures and protocols
- Facilitate, track, and monitor appropriate facility and equipment usage and adherence to rules
- Respond to participant injuries, coordinating first aid response and completing appropriate documentation, where applicable
- Respond to participant conflicts, where applicable
- Be the first point of contact for general intramural email communications
- Organize and attend meetings as required; serve on committees as required
- Provide on-site supervision at various intramural league special events, where applicable
- Serve as a Campus & Community Recreation and University of Alberta Ambassador while at work and away or when on or off duty
Fall & Winter League & Special Event Project Planning
- Assist with the development of the Fall term promotional planning
- Support and participate in Fall / Winter term interviews for Recreation Facilitators and Intramural Sports student staff.
- Support and assist in the development of major projects for Intramural Sports leagues and special events.
- Designing and implementing new policies, procedures, and protocols to streamline Fall and Winter Recreation Facilitator processes
- Contribute to the design and implementation of casual staff training materials
Other Duties
- Support ActiveU (school field trip) event planning and delivery
- Contribute to the team environment of the Club Sports Program and the Campus & Community Recreation as a whole
- Assist the Program Coordinator and/or Program Supervisor upon request
Working Conditions
Physical Demands:- Assist with set-up and take-down of equipment
- Providing First Aid as needed
- In-person, on-campus
- Indoor and outdoor environment
- May work in extreme conditions on a limited basis (snow and cold temperatures, sun and hot temperatures)
- Noise is expected during game play
- Areas may be slippery (pool deck, ice rink), or muddy (outdoor fields, diamonds) etc.
Qualifications/Expectations:
- Must be currently enrolled (2022-23) and returning to the University of Alberta for the next academic year (2023-24) as a full-time student
- Be available to work flexible hours including some evenings, occasional weekends, and daytime hours. Statutory holidays will be off as well as (unpaid) vacation requests, where applicable
- Must have exceptional organizational, listening, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Must have excellent customer service skills
- Strong organizational, administrative and computer skills
- Responsible, resourceful, and willing to work variable hours and as part of a team
- A pleasant personality together with a positive attitude is essential.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Ability to communicate, orally and written, effectively and efficiently
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, get along and work well with members of the department, supervisors and other employees of the university
- Ability to motivate and support the development of student, part time staff
- Knowledge of sport, recreation, wellness programs and/or event management is an asset
- Previous Campus & Community Recreation experiences are an asset
- Current Standard First Aid (within the last 3 years) and CPR C (within the last year) certification
