Athletics and Campus Community and Recreation are currently accepting applications for lead & support instructors to work in the area of our Climbing Camps. A variety of Sport-Specific and fitness-focused Camps will be offered to different age groups, including the FUNdamentals (ages 6-8), Learn-to-Train (ages 9-11) and Train-to-Train (ages 12- 14) stages. We are currently looking for coaches for the following camps:

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that our camps align with the principles and practices of the Campus & Community Recreation and Green & Gold Sport System
  • Ensure that camps are operated and delivered in a high quality manner at all times
  • Work collaboratively with the other members of the camps staff team to deliver lesson plans
  • Provide feedback to camp participants about their technical/tactical development
  • Ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all camp participants
  • Lead and supervise camp participants and activities throughout the day, including early drop off, scheduled lunch period and late pick up
  • Lead instructors will be responsible for planning, developing the summer camp program in collaboration with FTS. They will also assist full time staff in facilitating training sessions for support instructors and volunteers. Lead instructors will also have summer camp administrative responsibilities.
  • Assist with set-up and take-down of facilities and equipment, and various administrative duties

Qualifications

  • Current UofA students or recent graduates of the University of Alberta are preferred
  • Preference will be given to those with experience as a climbing instructor and/or climbing athlete
  • A diverse sport background (dance, Tae Kwon Do, badminton, etc.) is an asset for select camps
  • Previous experience working in a camp and/or program setting is an asset
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude toward working with children and youth
  • Current Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C (annual recertification required) and AED certification
  • Current National Lifeguarding Certification is considered an asset for select Camps
  • Climbing Gym/Wall Instructor Certifications is an asset 

Terms of Employment

  • Full Time Positions are preferred, however, part time positions will be considered
  • Days/Hours of Work: Monday to Friday (Full time - 40 hours a week) unless the camps are four day camps (32 hours per week) - unpaid 3o minutes lunch.
  • Lead Instructor: 1 position : May to August (start date flexible)
  • Support Instructors: 6 - 8 positions (full and part time): Tuesday July 4 to Friday August 25, plus 15-20 hours of mandatory Staff Training on June 24 and 25, 2023 from 8 am - 5 pm (Tentative)

Salary Range

  • Support Instructors: $16.93 - $18.78 (based on experience and certification)
  • Lead Instructor: $19.48 - $20.20 (based on experience and certification)
