Molly Henneberry

My name is Molly Henneberry, and I just finished my Bachelor of Kinesiology, majoring in Sport Performance. I'm continuing on to my MSc in Strength and Conditioning in the fall, and I've worked with a wide variety of clients, from people just starting their first exercise program to elite athletes. My training philosophy is that getting stronger should always be paired with learning to move better, and that these things combined are what leads to being healthy and active for life.

I have created an at-home 8 week strength training program that can be done with as much, or as little, equipment as you have on hand. We’ll increase the amount of training you do over the course of the program, to keep getting stronger. Feel free to take this outside, keep it in your living room, or whatever else you need to do to stay motivated!

David McWeeny

Hello my name is David Mcweeny and I am the Assistant Supervisor of the Wilson Climbing Center at the University of Alberta. Below I have detailed some of my professional experience, my training philosophies and personal passions.

Personal training experience:

12 week treadmill program: This treadmill running program will give you all the information you need to get back into shape and survive a full 5 km fun run, recreational soccer game, or similar duration/intensity activity (without feeling like you’re going to throw-up your lungs).

Return to Gym Program: This 12 week program will take you through all the theory, definitions, and progressions of a basic strength and hypertrophy focused program.

Structural Strength Program: This 8 week strength program will have you reflect on your goals and lifestyle in order to set intentions that will help you realize your true potential. Assess your exercise level and adjust the intensity as needed.

Efrem Violato

Hello my name is Efrem Violato and I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and have certification from the National Coaching Certification Program. I am also a PhD Candidate in Educational Psychology. I have been involved in sport my entire life including Hockey, Baseball, Football, Olympic Weightlifting, Track and Field, and Bobsleigh at the international level. I am interested in all aspects of physical development from general fitness to strength sports and bodybuilding. I have experience training athletes for a multitude of different sports as well as people with their own personal fitness goals.

Training philosophy: Focusing on the basics with intensity and consistency produces the best results.

I have created 4 at home programs that can be done with minimal equipment:

Program 1: This program provides five full body workouts that do not require any equipment, with the goal of increasing general fitness and athleticism. The programs are designed so that each training session provides a full body workout. You can complete anywhere from 2-5 workouts per week.

Program 2: This program provides four full body workouts based on circuit training that can be performed in a short amount of time, approximately 15 minutes. The goal of these programs is improving general fitness and body composition, and promoting weight loss. This program can be performed with no equipment or minimal equipment, i.e. light dumbells, or adjustable dumbbells. Each circuit is designed so that you can increase the intensity of your workouts week to week.

Program 3: This program provides two full body workouts, that require some equipment, with the goal of increasing athleticism particularly for running, biking, swimming, or recreationally focused sports e.g. golf, softball, hockey. The program can be performed in conjunction with another training program focused on sport specific training, e.g. a running program. It is recommended that the workouts be performed either after training for the primary sport on the same day or on a day where the primary sport is not being performed and there is the opportunity for rest after the workout.

Program 4: This is a generalized program that does not require any equipment. It allows you to choose the exercises that you would like to perform. A template is provided along with an exercise inventory. This program is applicable to anyone interested in improving general fitness and performance in recreationally focused sports. This program is designed for someone that would like flexibility and some control in how they perform their workouts. As the workouts can be variable it is important to focus on keeping the intensity high and making the exercises challenging.

Emma Gibson

My name is Emma, and I am a CSEP Certified Personal Trainer. I graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2019 with a Bachelor of Kinesiology. As a physiotherapy student, I am passionate about helping others create healthy movement patterns and achieve their goals. I work with a wide range of individuals, including young children, youth athletes, those rehabilitating from injuries, and the general population. I work with my clients to find forms of exercise that they enjoy, as this will help facilitate a lifelong active lifestyle. Other areas that I specialize in include functional mobility, advanced bodyweight practice, intuitive exercise, and glute/core activation. I believe in finding an activity that complements your life, and makes you look forward to going to the gym!

I have created 3 programs all with different training goals and levels in mind. Please take a look at the descriptions below to select the appropriate program for your training goals.

At home interval training: This is an 8-week program designed for the beginner to the intermediate exerciser. It includes three interval-style cardiovascular workouts. Each workout will require no equipment, and emphasize a different muscle group while providing an effective cardiovascular workout.

Intermediate strength training: This is an 8-week program designed for the intermediate exerciser. It includes three workouts per week - one for the upper body, lower body, and cardio/core. As an at-home program, this routine requires very little equipment. Many exercises require nothing at all, while others make use of a dumbbell. You may also add a dumbbell to bodyweight exercises to increase the challenge.

At home mobility and strength: This is an 8-week program designed for the intermediate to advanced exerciser. It will focus on not only increasing strength but strength through a greater range of motion, mobility, and flexibility. Each workout will require minimal equipment, which can be substituted for various items around the house.

Nutrition Follow Up

After your first consult and meal planning program, keep yourself on track with regular check-ins.
