Clara Davoine, artist and graduate

As you may have noticed, the poster for the 2022 edition of Campus Saint-Jean's Cérémonie de la Lumière is a remarkable work of art. The artist, Clara Davoine, is herself a graduate of the Campus and will be honoured along with her graduating classmates on June 18th.
Despite her busy schedule, Clara agreed to answer a few questions in order to learn more about the artist, her talents and her projects. The poster will be available for sale during the Cérémonie de la Lumière.
- Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Clara Jeanne Davoine, I was born in Quebec but raised in Alberta. I have always been creative and my imagination has made me a "special" person. I started doing arts and crafts at markets including the Art Walk since the age of 13. Over the years (and especially with the pandemic), the time I have spent perfecting my technique and style has allowed me to express myself and my remaining little girl soul (which I hope will always continue to refuse to grow).
- Where do your artistic talents come from?
My favorite medium is pen and ink and watercolor. My artistic talent and inspiration comes as much from myself as from my mother. When I was a little girl she used to read me the tales of Charles Perreault, illustrated by Gustave Doré. In retrospect, it is not surprising that I chose ink as my medium and tales, mythology and legends as my source of inspiration.
- What does the Cérémonie de la Lumière mean to you?
The Ceremony of Light represents for me first and foremost the recognition and culmination of years of study and work during my Bachelor's degree. It is proof that all the work, time and persistence in post secondary francophone education is absolutely worth it. As well as the chance to encourage future graduates to graduate in French at Campus Saint-Jean.
