2000

CILLDI was first held from July 14th to 22nd, 2000 at Onion Lake First Nation, Saskatchewan. It was modeled after its American counterpart, AILDI, and was designed to be an Indigenous educator training institute. This first summer school offered one course: Expanding Cree Language and Literacy, and was attended by 15 students from Alberta and Saskatchewan. Dr. Freda Akhenakew, author and Indigenous language preservation advocate was an honoured guest.
