This newest issue of the journal is dedicated to a keystone topic in 20th-century Ukrainian history—long known as the Struggle for Independence (1917–20) and more recently reframed as the Ukrainian Revolution of 1914–1923
The presentations during the online launch of the Ukraina Moderna special issue will take place in English and Ukrainian, with available simultaneous translation.
Focusing on the topic of the Ukrainian Revolution, the presentations will examine current historiographic debates and new research methods while weaving in a conversation around the contributions of Mark Von Hagen to this field. Highlighting the ideas, themes, and concepts published in the special issue, the contributing authors will also describe in detail the articles, discussion forum, and book reviews that comprise its contents.
The online launch participants will include prominent scholars Serhy Yekelchyk (University of Victoria), Frank Sysyn (University of Alberta), and Mayhill Fowler (Stetson University), the journal's editor-in-chief Gelinada Grinchenko (Kharkiv Karazin National University), and guest editor Oksana Dudko (University of Saskatchewan), as well as a number of other contributing authors. The discussions will be moderated by Yaroslav Hrytsak (Ukrainian Catholic University), founding editor of Ukraina Moderna.
