The first Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI) Alberta & Prairie node meeting was held on June 12th and 13th, 2017 at the University of Alberta to encourage collaborations and build a strong cancer research and innovation network in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The meeting was hosted under the auspices of Dr. Victor Ling (President and Scientific Director, TFRI), Dr. Carol Cass (Alberta Node leader, TFRI) and Dr. Spencer Gibson (Prairie Node leader, TFRI). Featured researchers from the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Manitoba and University of Saskatoon demonstrated their unique research strengths and institutional capacities in various areas such as breast cancer, brain cancer and DNA damage & repair. Together the four institutions will work to create the "TFRI Prairie Consortium" of the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres (Canadian comprehensive cancer centre networks).
