Strong showing for U of A students at CSC

Students impress at CSC 2012 with several awards and honourable mentions.

U of A Chemistry students had a strong showing last month at the 95th Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (CSC 2012), taking home several awards and honourable mentions. Students from across Canada gathered in Calgary from May 26th to 30th to network, collaborate, and present their research to peers. The Department of Chemistry would like to congratulate the following for their impressive results:

  • Isaac Jones (Serpe group), 1st place, Undergraduate Poster Competition (Analytical Chemistry)
  • Jeffrey Murphy (Buriak group), 1st place, Graduate Poster Competition (Macromolecular Science and Engineering)
  • Zhenyu Yang (Veinot group), 1st place, Graduate Poster Competition (Surface Science)
  • Zahra Dezhahang (Xu group), 2nd place, Graduate Poster Competition (Physical, Theoretical and Computational Chemistry)

Hosted in a major centre of the energy industry, the theme of the conference was "Energizing Chemistry". Special attention was given to interactions between chemistry and the energy sector, culminating in a symposium titled "Energy Futures" showcasing energy related research.
