Policy Research Assistant - Full-time Job Opportunity

(35 hrs/week, 1 year contract with the possibility of extension, starting April 17 or May 15, 2017)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Researches and writes policy briefs and briefing materials
  • Drafts letters and correspondences as required
  • Copyedits and proofreads Institute’s reports, publications and proposals
  • Assists in content development of Institute’s research plans, project proposals and training programs
  • Researches and prepares slides for CIUA presentations, including graphics and briefing notes
  • Compiles contacts for various China Institute organized and sponsored events
  • Prepares graphics and metrics (charts, diagrams, tables, maps) for knowledge dissemination and CIUA online presence, such as the Director’s Twitter
  • Verifies transaction information for the China-Canada Investment Tracker
  • Drafts Analytical Sections for Investment Tracker Quarterly Updates and blog pieces
  • Provides research support for the Institute’s Director and Deputy Director
  • Collects information and assists with preparation of media interviews
  • Supports Institute’s conferences and events as required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Political Science, Policy Studies, International Relations or Economics, minimum GPA 3.3
  • Outstanding writing skills
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Proven editing and proofreading abilities with keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative research capacity
  • Familiarity with policy research and policy development
  • Knowledge of Asian politics and economy would be an asset but not required
  • High proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team
