(35 hrs/week, 1 year contract with the possibility of extension, starting April 17 or May 15, 2017)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Researches and writes policy briefs and briefing materials
- Drafts letters and correspondences as required
- Copyedits and proofreads Institute’s reports, publications and proposals
- Assists in content development of Institute’s research plans, project proposals and training programs
- Researches and prepares slides for CIUA presentations, including graphics and briefing notes
- Compiles contacts for various China Institute organized and sponsored events
- Prepares graphics and metrics (charts, diagrams, tables, maps) for knowledge dissemination and CIUA online presence, such as the Director’s Twitter
- Verifies transaction information for the China-Canada Investment Tracker
- Drafts Analytical Sections for Investment Tracker Quarterly Updates and blog pieces
- Provides research support for the Institute’s Director and Deputy Director
- Collects information and assists with preparation of media interviews
- Supports Institute’s conferences and events as required
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor degree in Political Science, Policy Studies, International Relations or Economics, minimum GPA 3.3
- Outstanding writing skills
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Proven editing and proofreading abilities with keen attention to detail
- Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative research capacity
- Familiarity with policy research and policy development
- Knowledge of Asian politics and economy would be an asset but not required
- High proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team
