Annual Chinese Investment in Canada Forum

The China Institute of the University of Alberta will host its 8th annual “National Forum on Canada-China Investment and Trade.”  The theme this year is “Economic Policy & Trade Options for Canada in a Post-NAFTA World.” This one-day event will be held at the Fairmont Palliser in downtown Calgary on May 17, 2018.  Senior federal and provincial officials with responsibility for investment and trade policy will attend, along with industry leaders, including from Chinese firms operating in Canada, and leading experts on trade and investment issues.


With the newly negotiated Trans-Pacific Partnership and the current uncertainty surrounding the future of NAFTA, a new dynamic in trade relations for Canada that has emerged. As well, there remains uncertainties regarding the opening of formal negotiations on a Canada-China Free Trade Agreement. Evolving economic and policy environments in China and Canada add to the complexity and uncertainty surrounding Canadian economic relations with China and Asia and warrants a closer look at key issues.  The Forum this year will focus on the following topics:
