University of Alberta International is pleased to introduce a new research internship program for students from key partner universities in China and India who wish to conduct research under the supervision of a U of A faculty member.
The University of Alberta Research Internship Program provides a stipend of up to $5,000 CAD for undergraduate or graduate students to conduct research at the U of A for 2.5-4 months during Spring/Summer 2011 (May through August). Students from the following partner institutions are eligible:
· China: Fudan University, Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University
· India: IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur and University of Hyderabad
The program requires a $2,000 commitment from the U of A faculty member/department; the remaining $3,000 is funded by University of Alberta International.
Attached is an announcement and student application form for students from India; the application form for China will be released in approximately two weeks, following the Chinese New Year holiday season.
Students apply in general for the research internship program; specific placements will not be offered until supervisors are confirmed by University of Alberta International (see selection process below).
Faculty members are strongly encouraged to recruit outstanding young researchers from our partner institutions with this new program. Please distribute immediately to potential candidates.

1) Student applications received by Friday, February 11, 2011.
2) UAI contacts specific professors/Faculty to confirm interest in hosting.
3) Matching of students and supervisors to take place February 14-25.
4) Letters of invitation sent by early March.
China Selection Process
1) Student applications received by Friday, March 11, 2011.
2) UAI contacts specific professors/Faculty to confirm interest in hosting.
3) Matching of students and supervisors to take place March 14-25.
