Call for Proposals: Student Internship in Developing Countries

The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian International Development Agency invites institutions to submit ONE Multi-Year proposal (2011-2015)that addresses one or more of the following three components:

1. Internships for Canadian students and public engagement activities (1,000 in total; 20 four-month internships per University allowed; must be for credit)

2. Pilot internships for developing country students and public engagement activities (80 in total; no maximum per University allowed but must have in-kind University support; must be for credit)

3. Pilot student networking for development initiatives (15-20 in total; ideally 20 students from Canada and 20 students from partner country) Maximum $15,000.

Eligible countries are: Bangladesh, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Ukraine, Vietnam and Zambia.

Projects must address CIDA's cross-cutting themes of: promoting equality between women and men, increasing environmental sustainability and helping to strengthen governance institutions and practices.

Program proposals must be aligned with CIDA's priority themes of:

1. Increasing Food Security

  • Food aid and Nutrition
  • Sustainable Agricultural Development, particularly for small-scale farmers and women
  • Research and Development

2. Securing the future of children and youth

  • Child survival, including maternal health
  • Access to quality education
  • Safe and secure futures for children and youth

3. Sustainable economic growth

  • Building economic foundations
  • Growing businesses
  • Investing in people

All parties must submit the following for consideration:

  1. Complete SFD Application (download)
  2. Complete SFD Project Budget (download)
  3. Letter of Approval from the Chair of the Department
  4. Letter of Approval from the Dean of the Faculty
