The Office of the Vice-President (Research) and U of A International are pleased to announce a call for proposals for Phase I projects under the China Opportunity Fund.

Background

Through the support of the Alberta government and the Vice-President (Research), the China Opportunity Fund was established as a vehicle to foster linkages between UAlberta scientists and leading researchers in the People's Republic of China. In 2005, UAlberta developed the Joint Research Laboratories (JRL) program with China's Ministry of Science & Technology (MOST), which funds State Key Laboratories (SKLs) and National Laboratories (NLs). In this program, joint research projects between UAlberta researchers and SKLs/NLs are supported jointly through the China Opportunity Fund and MOST.

The current call for proposals focuses on Phase I projects:

· Phase I projects support UAlberta professors interested in initiating contact with SKLs or NLs in China and investigating opportunities for collaboration. One-time funding of up to $5,000 (maximum) per project.

Priority Areas of Research

Areas of research that will be given priority are energy, environment, nanotechnology, life sciences, and information and communication technologies (ICT).

Deadline

The deadline for submission of China Opportunity Fund project proposals is noon on Friday, May 31, 2013.

Additional details are in the call for proposals and application form, which are available at http://www.international.ualberta.ca/en/FundingOpportunities/UAlbertaMOST.aspx.
