China is unique in that it is not homo-geneous in its art and architecture, as many people assume. China draws from its 56 ethnic nationalities or minorities, thus bringing to its art and architecture a diversity and uniqueness nowhere else seen. As part of this, China has a large thriving Muslim community that has had a long history in China. This lecture will specifically focus on the Chinese Mosque, as opposed to the Mosque in China, highlighting the uniqueness of the Traditional Chinese Mosque, its architecture, composition and decoration.
