Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering and the School of Mining & Petroleum Engineering

Mining & Petroleum Engineering

The School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering is the leading institution for the study of energy and natural resources in Canada. Being close to the centre of Canada’s energy sector, the School offers students unique opportunities for hands-on learning and growth. We are in the fortunate position of being the only major university geographically close to the Alberta Oilsands, natural gas fields, and an abundance of mining activity in Canada’s North and Western Canada. As mining in the areas of diamonds, precious metals, iron ore and potash continues to increase, greater demand is being placed on engineering graduates to uncover more efficient, environmentally friendly and cost effective solutions to the development of our natural resources.

Students who are interested in Mining & Petroleum Engineering have the option of completing one of two degrees:

  • BSc in Mining Engineering
  • BSc in Petroleum Engineering
