Qualifications
- You must be in grade 10, 11 or 12 at the time of application.
- Applications will be considered from students both inside and outside the Edmonton area, but within the province of Alberta.
- This is a paid internship. Some but not all funding will be limited to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
- You can apply for up to 6 weeks. You will be considered even if you can only participate for a few weeks due to travel or summer school commitments during July/August. However, payments can only be given for the number of hours spent in-person at the university. Students can spend a maximum of 25 hours each week in-person. HIP 2024 internship begins Tuesday, July 2, 2024 and finishes Friday, Aug 9, 2024.
- You are not eligible to apply if you have previously participated in the HIP program.

**If you have already submitted an application and received the confirmation of submission immediately after filling out the google form, you do NOT need to submit again.**
Applications will not be considered until the online application, a single PDF file including all the information requested, is received.
Your application should be ONE PDF file named LastName_FirstName_Grade_X.pdf
You can follow the provided template ( pdf, doc) to help you format your PDF file.
Application Requirements
- Please provide the following details:
- Full Name (first and last)
- Grade at the time of application
- High School at the time of application
- City/Town of Residence
- Phone number
- Email Address
- Courses in Science and Language:
- We will consider Math 30-1 (or Math 20-1 if Math 30-1 is not yet taken) + English 20-1 (or English 30-1) in the preliminary selection criteria. A minimum of average 85% is required; beyond 90% the average will not make any difference. Priority will be given to students in Grade 11, following other similar programs supported by the Alberta Government.
- You may summarize marks in up to 3 other Science courses; e.g., Bio 20-1, Chem 20-1, and Physics 20-1, either completed or in progress.
- List your marks according to the specifications above
- Clearly indicate the average of Math and English, e.g. Average of Math and English: xx%
- Clearly indicate the average of your 5 marks, e.g. TOP 5 Marks Average: xx%
- Internship Duration: Indicate how many weeks (0 to 6) of internship you would like to work for this summer
- Academic Achievements and Competitions: Please list any awards or recognitions received in academic contests that are higher than your school level (i.e., city, province, national level).
- Sports/Music Achievements: Summarize any awards and achievements in sports and music at the city/town/municipality and higher (e.g., province/national) levels. We will not consider awards given by students' own high schools.
- Diversity and Inclusion Information: Please indicate if you belong to any under-represented groups, including female, black, rural/remote communities, first nations communities etc.
- Language Proficiency: Highlight any bilingual capabilities, including participation in programs like French Immersion or other dual-language programs.
- Grades from SchoolZone or PowerSchool: Include screenshots of marks from SchoolZone or Powerschool (Math and English must be completed, others can be Interim Grades)
- Additional Information:
- Formal grade report from your regional school authority is not required at this stage, but will be requested later.
- PAT scores are not required.
- We will not consider online courses, evening schools, grades from specialized colleges, home school grades etc.;
summer schools must be in-person only, with exams taken in-person not online. - There is no need to include any reference or nomination letters. However, schools of selected applicants could be contacted to verify accuracy of PowerSchool/SchoolZone documents.

Application Tips
- Be professional—proofread your application, follow the instructions and submit your application as early as possible.
- Students with the most experience or highest marks are not always chosen. Supervisors also look for students that have matching interests, a curiosity about the field and that are self-motivated.
Notification
Decisions will be communicated via email by May 15, 2024. A match-making session will be held in June 2024. The in-person component of HIP will start in early July 2024.
