Find answers to some frequently asked questions about convocation ceremonies at the University of Alberta below.

Please note that information about the Augustana Campus convocation ceremony can be found on the Augustana Campus website.

Q. When is my convocation?
A. Convocation dates are posted on the main convocation website, as well as the Registrar's Office website. For added assurance, you can also check your convocation date in your Bear Tracks account.

Q. When can I pick up my convocation packet?
A. Convocation packet pick-up depends on the date of convocation. A handy list of convocation dates and their packet pick-up times is available on the Registrar's Office website.

Q. Where can I pick up my convocation packet?
A. Convocation packet pick-up is on the lower level of the Bookstore in SUB. Make sure you bring your ONEcard or government-issued photo identification! The easiest route to get to the University Bookstore for convocation packet pick-up and gown return are through the Stadium Car Park Pedway (Level 7 of the parkade), the southeast entrance (across from the Administration Building) or the northeast entrance (between SUB and Pembina Hall).

Q. What is included in the convocation packet?
A. The packet itself includes your parchment (official degree), procedures for graduands, guest tickets and your name card (which is also your ticket). Your legal name is written on the card; if you wish to have your preferred name announced onstage, please cross out your legal name and clearly write your preferred name on the card.

Q. How many guest tickets do we receive?
A. Graduands can request up to three guest tickets. You receive your guest tickets when you pick up your packet. The Registrar's Office reserves the right to change the number of guest tickets as required, according to graduand attendance.

Q. What if I need more tickets for the ceremony?
A. Unfortunately, there is no way to request extra tickets in advance. However, students who need more tickets can go to the Jubilee Auditorium box office on the day of their ceremony at the following times to inquire about remaining tickets:

  • Shortly after 9 a.m. for morning ceremonies
  • Shortly after 2 p.m. for afternoon ceremonies

Q. Where is the ceremony being held?
A. All convocation ceremonies are held at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (11455 87 Avenue).

Q. Where can I park?
A. The Jubilee parkade has been reserved for graduates and their families. It is the best place to park during convocation. The cost is $6, and a map can be found on the main convocation website. Please allow for extra time to get to convocation. Campus will be busy with many other students and their families heading to convocation.

Q. How do I reserve academic apparel for the ceremony?
A. To reserve your apparel go to the Graduation Status page on BearTracks and click on the link for apparel reservation. Note you must update your attendance prior to reserving apparel. After the online apparel reservation site has closed (usually three weeks before the start of the ceremonies), academic apparel may still be rented from the University Bookstore during the time assigned to your faculty as outlined in the Pick-Up Dates and Times.

Q. Is there a livestream available for my family who can't attend the ceremony?
A. Yes. The livestream is available on the main convocation website on the day of each convocation ceremony. Past ceremonies are archived on the Registrar's Office website, in case family members or friends miss it on the day of.

Q. I have a financial hold on my account. Will this affect my convocation?
A. Yes and no. Students who have a financial hold on their account can still participate in the convocation ceremony; they just will not receive their degree until the hold has been cleared.

Q. Where can I get news and stories about convocation?
A. Stories, photos, honorary degree recipient information, the #UAlberta19 Instagram stream and more can be found on the main convocation website.

Q. Is there a hashtag for convocation?
