Get Involved

The HCU works collaboratively with partners on campus to create a healthy campus community through health promotion strategies and initiatives. We offer a low commitment, flexible and meaningful opportunity to become involved on campus. Along with contributing to the health and wellness of students at the U of A, you'll be part of an amazing team of talented, creative, caring, and motivated individuals!

We are seeking to fill positions for our Student Volunteer Team. Students volunteers are:

  • Involved in events planning and community engagement activities to promote student health and wellbeing
  • Take on tasks involving graphic design, communications, community involvement, and presentation
  • Able to sharpen their skills in communication and presenting, team building, and creativity!

Health is a broad term that not only includes physical health but also, mental health, financial, academic, environmental, career, and spiritual wellness. In preparation for this work, we require a diverse team of individuals with creative perspectives. Successful applications will receive training in program planning, health promotion, communication, and leadership.

Some words from previous volunteers:

  •  "I have been involved with the healthy campus unit for 2 years. [There is] an incredible team dynamic  ...working with like-minded and motivated individuals who value and encourage health and wellness. Secondly, you are given tasks often based on your interests and where you'd like to grow. For me, public speaking was my weak point and the HCU has helped me grow in that aspect and has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. I highly recommend you apply if you're passionate about health and wellness!"

  •  As a member of the HCU, I have learned that student wellness is so much more than just working out and taking mental breaks. I have learned ways to improve my own wellness in all aspects, not just physical and mental. It has been so rewarding to assist in creating programs for students that genuinely make a difference in their lives; and on top of all of this, I have made so many wonderful friendships while working as a part of such a genuinely kind and supportive team.
