Welcome to our page for instructors. Our goal is to help you help your students build the writing skills they need to succeed in class and beyond. Read on to discover some of the ways we can collaborate. If you have a request or idea that is not mentioned on this page, reach out to us and we will see how we can help.

Centre for Writers (C4W) overview

Class Visits and Presentations

One of our tutors can visit your class (via Zoom) for a general information session about our services or a more specific presentation on different writing strategies. Please fill out the form below if you would like to request a presentation.

We can:

  • Deliver short class presentations (5-15 minutes) about our services.
  • Deliver presentations on specific writing topics for up to 50 minutes.

Class Group Tutoring

An experienced “Class Group Tutor” could be assigned to your class and work with you and your students all semester. This tutor will help small groups of 5-10 students (at a time) from your class work on writing assignment(s). To help students choose what works best with their schedules, our tutors can offer 2-3 different meeting times per assignment. Class Group Tutoring is, of course, dependent upon tutor availability.

Extra Credit and Special Projects

Some instructors require their students to visit the C4W as part of an assignment or offer them extra credit for visiting. If you plan to offer extra credit for visiting, please contact us as early as possible so that we can arrange to accommodate your students.

If many of your students will be visiting us over a short period of time, we may be able to provide them with dedicated group tutoring sessions. Please contact us to learn more about group tutoring for your class.
If your students request it, we can provide proof of attendance. We can fill out forms but with everything being online, please ask your students to provide your email address to their tutors so we can send you a confirmation email that your student was helped by a C4W tutor.

Help Your Students Make the Most of Their Visit

All writers can benefit from a second set of eyes. You can encourage your students to make the most of their appointment by:

  • Planning ahead to make appointments. Our schedule fills up very quickly.
  • Visiting us early in the writing process. We love to help with brainstorming and planning!
  • Coming prepared with specific questions or areas of concern to focus the tutoring session.>
  • Dropping in, even if the schedule is full. There's always a chance something could open up last-minute. You can chat online with Justin (our Program Coordinator) on Google Chat ( during our opening hours. Search to have a live conversation. Justin can get you on the drop-in list. You can also email us.
  • Remembering that the C4W is not a "fix-it" shop. Tutors cannot edit or write students' papers for them, nor can they guarantee a good grade. Tutors will, however, teach effective writing principles to your students so your students become better writers.

  • Come to one of our staff meetings to learn more about our services, or share your expertise on the writing roadblocks your students encounter.
