Study strategically

What do you need to know about your final exams? Here is a quick checklist to help you review:

  • What material is covered?
  • Is the exam cumulative?
  • What kinds of questions will be asked, how many, and in what format?
  • Do you need to bring anything to the exam?
  • How much time will you have?
  • Where is it?

Take study breaks

Take frequent breaks while studying and engage in activities that relax you, like going for a walk, listening to music, etc.

Unwind Your Mind will be in U of A Libraries from December 4 - 14, 2017 with activities to help you take a break and de-stress, including:

  • free fitness classes
  • build your own de-stress kit
  • collective vision boarding
  • create your own gratitude jar
  • free healthy snacks, and more.

Live within your means

The holiday season often brings heavy spending and, with it, debt to be paid off in the new year. 

Keep your spending in check this month to ensure a financially responsible start to the new year with the following tips:

  • try gifting your time instead of material gifts
  • plan activities that are free or inexpensive
  • spend time cooking rather than going out to eat
  • find gratitude for everything you have rather than focusing on what you don't

Take care of yourself

This time of year can be a time of stress, tension, isolation, and loneliness. Here are a few ways to take care of yourself:

  • connect with others
  • give to others
  • be active
  • engage in self-care
  • enjoy the outdoors
  • get the rest you need
  • reach out for help if you need

Plan your days off

Scheduling activities for the holiday season/days out of classes can alleviate stress from the exam season. 

  • give back to your community by volunteering at a holiday event or local charity 
  • ask friends to hang out or schedule a group activity
  • get together with loved ones
  • sign up for Share the Cheer as either a student guest or host
  • practice self-care routines and enjoy your hobbies

Resolutions, fresh starts, goals...whatever you prefer, think about helpful habits you want to establish in 2018 using the following steps:

  • identify the values behind your goals
  • stop fantasizing about the goal
  • identify the approach or strategy you need
  • commit to the approach
