Department of Medicine Awards

The Department of Medicine has a number of awards, available to its faculty and support staff members.

Award recipients will be recognized at the Department's Annual Celebration Dinner.

All nominations are due March 15th. If March 15th falls on a weekend, the submission deadline will be the next business day.

Career Development Awards

  • Thomas J Marrie Mentorship Award
    • The Department of Medicine wishes to recognize a faculty member who best exemplifies the qualities of a mentor.
  • Jonathan B Meddings Clinical Innovation Award
    • The Department of Medicine wishes to recognize clinical innovations that impact patient care in a positive and meaningful way
  • Cooperation, Collaboration and Teamwork Award
    • The Department wishes to recognize those groups who have been successful in creating environments where the professional characteristics of Cooperation, Collaboration and Teamwork are effective for teaching, research, patient care and/or administration and are visible to others, thus representing operational role models in the academic environment and/or the larger community.

J. Charles “Chuck” Morrison Award

J. Charles “Chuck” Morrison Award is an annual award named in honour of the decades of service Chuck Morrison provided to the Department as Director of Administrative Services.

The Department of Medicine wishes to recognize the significant contributions office support staff make to the Department of Medicine

Medical Education Publication Award

The Medical Education Publication Award is given to a first, senior or corresponding author for a Publication in a top-ranked journal or peer-reviewed compendium, with the work having been completed at the University of Alberta.

Research Awards

  • Basic Science Publication Award
    • The Department of Medicine wishes to recognize a scientist for a research publication in a top ranked journal, with the work having been completed at the U of A and the award winner as PI
  • Clinical Investigation Publication Award
    • The Department of Medicine wishes to recognize a research publication in a top ranked journal, with the work having been completed at the U of A and the award winner as PI
  • Clinical Faculty Research Award
    • The Department of Medicine wishes to recognize clinical, part-time, faculty’s work published could be original research, basic or clinical, reports on clinical trials or drug studies, or a major review article
  • Paul W. Armstrong Excellence in Research Award
    • The Department of Medicine wishes to honour excellence in scientific research
  • Translational Research Award
    • The Department of Medicine wishes to honour excellence in applied clinical scientific research
