Please Note
Generally speaking if a ferritin is >100, iron deficiency anemia is unlikely unless there has been recent evidence of bleeding; the ferritin may be elevated if significant inflammation is present, such as can be seen with rheumatoid arthritis or significant hepatic injury. In that case the ferritin is not helpful to determine whether a patient is truly iron deficient.
