The promotion criteria outlined in the new FoMD Appointment and Promotion Criteria Procedure for Clinical Academic Colleagues are now in effect.

Please note, some aspects of the new FoMD Procedure will be phased-in over the next 3 years to ensure that DoM Clinical Faculty members have ample notice regarding significant changes to the promotion and appointment process.  These include:

  • Fall 2020, 2021 and 2022 applicants are “eligible” to apply for promotion to Associate Clinical Professor when they have 3 or more years in the rank of Assistant Clinical Professor.
    • Beginning in fall 2023, this time requirement will increase to 4 or more years, reflecting full implementation of section IV of the FoMD Procedure.
  • Fall 2020, 2021 and 2022 applicants are “eligible” to apply for promotion to Clinical Professor when they have 5 or more years as Associate Clinical Professors.

    • Beginning in fall 2023, applicants will be required to submit the specified number of Clinical Annual Reports, reflecting full implementation of section V.2 of the FoMD Procedure.

Clinical Lecturers - Automatic Consideration for Promotion

  • Beginning in 2022, all clinical faculty who have been at the rank of Clinical Lecturer for 3 or more years will automatically undergo consideration for promotion each spring.
  • This requirement will be phased-in, beginning in spring 2022. In spring 2022, only those who have 3+ years in the rank and whose appointment expires on June 30, 2022 will undergo a review and automatic promotion consideration.  These individuals will be notified directly.
  • Clinical Lecturers who have been in the rank between 1 and 3 years may still submit a full application for promotion, if they wish to be considered for promotion earlier (optional).
