Update Your Professional Page

A professional page is a public-facing webpage for an academic staff member that appears on the University of Alberta (U of A) website. All professional pages for academic staff members in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FoMD) will populate from data sourced from our MyFoMD and FARM systems, saving you time by using existing data.

Through this system, FoMD-specific business rules will be applied to the uploading of pages, as well as removing web pages from the public view if an appointment ends.

A user is recommended to have at least two pieces of information associated with their profile:

  • Name
  • Public contact information (preferred address, telephone number and/or email address)

Having a strong digital presence is important, and this business rule will help improve the quality of the professional pages. It is highly recommended that you have as much information as possible uploaded into MyFoMD, and follow the approval process so that it may be posted on the public site.

Updating Your Professional Page

  1. Login to MyFoMD and go to Personnel Administration > Professional Pages in the left navigation.

  2. You should already have a professional page record (use the +Add button if you don't. Go to Actions > Update in the drop-up menu for the record.

  3. Complete the form by providing the following information in the form fields: 
    • Display Photo – Check this checkbox if you want your photo to show on your professional page.
    • Display Publications - Your professional page will show all publications in chronological order attributed to you in the last two years. This field is read-only.
    • Display Grants - Your professional page will show all grants awarded from the past two years. This field is read-only.
    • Display Degrees - Check this checkbox if you want to show your degrees on your professional page. Note: Degrees shown are from FARM until degrees are migrated to MyFoMD.
    • Display Degrees - Year Granted - Check this checkbox if you want to show your degree year. You must check the Display Degrees checkbox for this to have any affect.
    • Display Degrees - Institution - Check this checkbox if you want to show your degree institution. You must check the Display Degrees checkbox for this to have any affect.
    • Display Email Address - Check this checkbox if you want to share your U of A email on your professional page. Note: Previously email addresses were shared by default and you could not remove consent. Due to privacy concerns, email addresses are now not shared until you provide consent.
    • I would like my research information to be searchable by our international partner universities. This would allow PhD students and postdocs that will be eligible for Chinese Scholarship Council funding to contact you. - Check this checkbox if you want to display your information to international partner universities through our private website.
    • International Student Type - If you checked the above checkbox, then choose the international student type(s) in which you are interested.
    • Job Title(s) - Enter your job title as you want it to appear on your professional page. Note: Your job title was migrated from your working title in FARM and is now part of the professional page for convenience. This field may move in the future when we migrate the working title module into MyFoMD.
    • Personal Website URL - If you have an additional professional website, and wish to have a link to that page, enter the address here.
    • Twitter - Enter the URL of your Twitter feed.
    • LinkedIn - Enter the URL of your LinkedIn page.
    • GooglePlus - Enter the link to your professional Google Plus page.
    • Facebook - Enter the link to your professional Facebook Page.
    • About Me - Enter a professional biography or description about yourself.
    • Featured Publications - Enter information that highlights your recent or most notorious publications.
    • Teaching Enter information that highlights your teaching activities.
    • Scholarly Activities - Enter information that highlights your scholarly activities that you wish to share.
    • Clinical Interests - Enter information that highlights your clinical interests.
    • Team Members - Enter information on other colleagues on your team. (Please be mindful of any personal information and consent.)
    • Authorization and Consent - Choose Yes if you have completed your professional page setup and are ready for it to be display. Choose No if setup is still in progress and you can return later to change it to Yes when you are ready. Choose No if you do not want to show more than your name and public contact information on your professional page.

      Authorization and consent are a very important area to consider and understand. If you do not provide consent for your photo and degrees, this information will not be displayed on your public-facing professional page.

  4. Click the Save button. Your professional page information is updated and you will see a confirmation notification. Note: Your professional page on the U of A website will not update immediately. It will be updated every hour (at the most) for the information in the professional page and profile photo modules and every four hours (at the most) for all other information.
  5. Select the Research Keywords tab (if you were adding instead of updating then you will be taken to this tab automatically). Add, update or delete your research keywords as desired.
