Meet the Acting Class of 2018



Gabby BERNARD

Gabby is an Edmonton born-and-based theatre artist about to complete her final year of the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting program. Her education here has uncovered a thirst for experimental narratives, and she hopes to expand her own practice of physical and devised theatre upon graduation. Select credits include: The Lady from the Sea (Studio Theatre), As You Like it, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (University of Alberta), The Gift of the Magi (Thou Art Here), Heart of Gold (Wildhorse Theatre), Never, Never (Promise Productions) and Attempts on Her Life (MacEwan University). She will be appearing in A Doll House, The Lower Depths and The School for Scandal in the 2017/2018 Studio Theatre season. Gabby is also a graduate of Grant MacEwan’s Theatre Arts program, and is a recent recipient of the Dr. Dasha Goody Memorial Foundation scholarship.


Billy BROWN

Billy Brown is an actor/singer from Edmonton, Alberta. In 2014 he graduated from the Musical Theatre Program at MacEwan University, and is now studying drama in the BFA Acting Program here at the University of Alberta. His most recent theatre credits include Lyngstrand in The Lady from the Sea (Studio Theatre), Moth in Love’s Labour’s Lost (Freewill Shakespeare), Sampson in Romeo and Juliet (Freewill Shakespeare), Skip Goldman in Rumpelstiltskin (Alberta Opera), Igor in Young Frankenstein (Prairie Skies), Freak in Never Never (Promise Productions), and Freddy in Carrie the Musical (MacEwan University). Billy was thrilled when Rumpelstiltskin was nominated for Outstanding Production for Young Audiences at the 2015 Sterling Awards.


Alex CHEROVSKY

Alex Cherovsky is a Calgary born actor and performer currently based in Edmonton. Alex is a graduate of the former MRU Theatre Performance Program in Calgary. His selected credits include As You Like It, Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, and Lion in the Streets (University of Alberta Theatre); Dog Sees God (Sour Dog Productions); The Hobbit (Storybook Theatre); The Comedy of Errors (Theatre Calgary/ Shakespeare By The Bow); Othello, 12th Night, The Winter’s Tale (The Shakespeare Company); Dracula and The Rocky Horror Show (Mount Royal University Theatre). You may also recognize his voice for the animated character Tsuneto Tado on Cardfight Vanguard G-Series. Alex will be appearing as Dr. Rank in A Doll House, and will be performing in The Lower Depths and The School for Scandal.  He hopes you enjoy the Studio season and his wonderful classmates.


Silverius MATERI

Originally from Red Deer, Silverius is thrilled to be in his final year of the BFA Acting Program. He is a gold medalist in the Southern Alberta Regional Improv Games and has competed at the national level. Since coming to Edmonton, Silverius has helped develop several new works, including Freeing Heaven’s Secrets (Luay Eljamal), F***, Marry, Kill (New Works Festival), and (Un)Known Stories (In Arms Theatre Collective). Some other recent acting credits include The Duke in As You Like It (University of Alberta), Hamlet in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (University of Alberta), Father Hayes/Timmy in Lion in the Streets (U of A), Prince Escalus in Romeo & Juliet (Prime Stock Theatre), and Touchstone in As You Like It (Prime Stock Theatre). In this upcoming season at Studio Theatre, you can see Silverius in A Bright Room Called Day, The Lower Depths, and The School for Scandal. He looks forward to the adventure of performing and creating for many years to come.


Matt MIHILEWICZ

Matt was born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and is a graduate of the Acting for Film and Television program at Vancouver Film School. Matt is excited to be in his graduating year in the BFA Acting Program. He is looking forward to playing on the Timms’ stage as Torvald in A Doll House, as well as The Lower Depths and The School for Scandal. His Past credits include Rosencrantz/Claudius in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (University of Alberta), Silvius in As You Like It (Universty of Alberta), Zambo in the Cerebral Soirée (University of Alberta), David in Hanging Out (2017 Fringe) and The Demon in Feather Fall (2016 Fringe). Matt is also skilled as a juggler and mental magician. He would like to thank his family and loved ones for all their constant support.


Hayley MOORHOUSE

Hayley is an Edmonton-based performer and writer. Now in her final year of the BFA Acting Program, she has enjoyed immersing herself in the study, performance and creation of a wide range of theatre. Recent credits at the University of Alberta include Lion in the Streets, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and As You Like It. Hayley has also been involved in a variety of projects with The Citadel Theatre Young Companies, Found Festival and The Edmonton International Fringe Festival. Her plays have received readings from The Citadel Theatre Young Playwriting Company, The Skirtsafire Festival and Nextfest. Catch Hayley on the Studio stage this year in A Bright Room Called Day, The Lower Depths and The School for Scandal.


Priya NARINE
CV & Headshot

Priya is an Edmonton-born actor and singer in her final year of the BFA Acting program. Select theatre credits in the include: As You Like It, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Lion in the Streets for the BFA, as well as A Winter's Tale Project with the Citadel Theatre's Young Musical Company (2013; dir. Bridget Ryan). Priya has participated in competitive musical theatre classes at the Edmonton Kiwanis Music Festival, and in July 2015 she completed a four week Shakespeare intensive at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art in the UK, where she was privileged to play the title role in a gender-bent production of King Lear. In the Studio Theatre's upcoming season, Priya can be seen in A Bright Room Called Day, The Lower Depths, and The School For Scandal. Priya is excited to pursue Shakespearean, classical and musical theatre upon graduation, and hopes to explore film & television in the near future.


Erin PETTIFOR

Erin performed in the 36th Annual Edmonton Fringe Festival in Ashleigh Hick’s play, Tempting. She will open the University’s Studio Theatre season as Agnes in Tony Kushner’s A Bright Room Called Day, directed by Brenley Charkow. Erin will perform in Play the Fool’s Rookie Cabaret with Lady Be Good a Neo-Bouffon piece created by Gabby Bernard and herself with mentoring by Christine Lesiak. In the summer of 2017, she spent five rewarding weeks at the Manitoulin Conservatory for Performance and Creation. She was also a participant in Opera NUOVA’s Ten Day Singing Intensive. Her artistic endeavors from the summer have been generously supported by the Red Deer Arts Council with the Canada’s Centennial Scholarship and by Edmonton Musical Theatre with the Dr. Dasha Goody Scholarship. In the summer of 2016, Erin grew her puppeteering skills in a SCiP internship with the theatre company Thou Art Here. In 2015, she performed in Bard on Bower and completed the Theatre Performance and Creation program at Red Deer College. In 2014, she performed in her first devised Fringe show Sonder and took The National Voice Intensive.


Connor SUART

Connor Suart is an Edmonton-based performer in his final year of the BFA Acting Program. He has collaborated with independent companies in Edmonton through Next Fest, Found Festival, The Fringe, Nuit Blanche and Play The Fool Clown Festival. He has performed extensively at the University of Alberta including Lion in The Streets (Edward), The Cerebral Soiree, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Guildenstern), and As You Like It (Duke Frederick). Other credits include Unedited Footage of a Ghost (Play The Fool Clown Festival), Murder at the Magic Emporeum (Edmonton Fringe), Sugar Bath (Found Festival) and Where Did You Go (Nuit Blanche). You can catch him this season in The Lower Depths, The School For Scandal and as Krogstad in A Doll House.


Joel David TAYLOR

Joel David Taylor is a Calgary-based actor who is thrilled to be completing his final year in the BFA Acting Program. Selected credits include: A Comedy of Errors (Theatre Calgary, Shakespeare by the Bow) Othello (The Shakespeare Company) Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo (Search Tower Company) Before the Night Takes Us (Theatre BSMT) and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (University of Alberta). You can catch him this season in Studio Theatre’s production of A Bright Room Called Day, The Lower Depths, and The School for Scandal!


Hillary WARDEN

Hillary is excited to be in her final year of the BFA Acting Program. She currently holds her Grade 10 Speech Arts & Drama Certificate and her Grade 10 Piano Certificate, both with the Royal Conservatory of Music. She also holds her Advanced Performer's Certificate with Trinity College. Her most recent credits include: Parade (Opera Nuova), The Flying Doctor (Edmonton Fringe), Rosencrantz and Gildenstern Are Dead (University of Alberta) and As You Like It (University of Alberta). You can catch her this Studio Season in: A Bright Room Called Day (Zillah), The Lower Depths, and The School For Scandal. She would like to thank her mom, dad, Steph, and Ni for being a constant source of support and love.


Kiana WOO

Kiana is a Calgary raised, Edmonton based performer. She is currently in her final year of the BFA acting program, and is thrilled to be moving into a new chapter of her artistic career. She has performed at the University of Alberta in a number of shows including Lion in the Streets (Rhonda/Lily), The Cerebral Soiree, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (Ophelia/Player), and As You Like It (Aimens). Other credits include Silence and the Machine at Nextfest 2016 and Whatwazzat!? at Found Fest 2017. This year you can catch Kiana in The Lower Depths, The School for Scandal, and as Mrs. Linde in A Doll House. She is delighted to be a part of the 2017/2018 Studio Theatre Season alongside her wonderful ensemble.
