Assistant Professor in Economic Geology

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level in Economic Geology. Exceptional candidates may be considered for hiring at the rank of Associate Professor. It is expected that successful applicants will make use of our world-class facilities and expertise in Resource Geochemistry. Our Resource Geochemistry group draws exceptional strength from having built up geochemical facilities that together constitute the Canadian Centre for Isotopic Microanalysis and which includes >$30 million worth of state-of-the-art laboratories and analytical equipment. We are seeking outstanding individuals who demonstrate the potential to develop strong research programs in Economic Geology across the fields of geology, environmental Earth science, geochemistry and geophysics.

Assistant Professor in Human Geography

Laboratory & Facility Manager - Canadian Ice Core Archive

The position of Lab and Facility Manager for the Canadian Ice Core Archive (CICA) is a research scientist appointment to manage the establishment and subsequent operation of the Canadian Ice Core Archive and its associated laboratory facilities and instrumentation. The incumbent reports administratively to the Executive Director of CICA, Dr. Martin Sharp. The position involves the oversight of a core storage facility, core processing laboratory, and an analytical facility that will initially house a line scanning camera, solid electrical conductivity measurement system, Picarro stable isotope analyzer, dual ion chromatograph system, particle size analyzer, and spectrofluorometer, as well as a core melter system designed to general input for continuous flow analyses of ice cores.

Associate Director, Integrated Petroleum Geosciences

The Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta invites applications for the position of Associate Director, Integrated Petroleum Geosciences (IPG) program. This is a full time, 5-year term appointment.

The IPG program is a rigorous one-year course-based M.Sc. program offered jointly by the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) and the Department of Physics that prepares students to work in the modern petroleum industry.

The Associate Director will report to and work closely with the IPG’s Academic Director. He or she will: assist with the development of new programing, help facilitate and oversee IPG projects with industry partners, play a significant role in supervising some of these projects directly and contribute to the teaching of the IPG program.
