Application Process & Fees

The Application Package

A complete application for admission consists of the following items uploaded to the online application portal:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) - you may use this form or provide your own CV.
  • Official and original transcripts, mark sheets/grade cards and degree certificates from all post-secondary institutions (including courses completed during an exchange). 
  • Graduate certificates are required for applicants from China.
  • Individual mark sheets/grade cards are required for applicants India and Pakistan, consolidated transcripts are not acceptable. 
  • Two letters of reference uploaded by the referees. Letters must be on letterhead and signed with a physical signature. Please note, in most cases we require at least one academic reference; the other reference may be academic or professional. Note: reference letters must be provided in English to be accepted. Referees may upload reference letters in PDF format. 
  • A brief statement (between 250 and 500 words) of your area of research interest and an outline of what you propose to study (SOI).
  • (Where applicable) Official proof of proficiency in the English language.
  • Please ensure your application is complete before submitting.

You do not need to contact a potential supervisor before applying to the IPG program.

Please DO NOT contact the Department about the status of your application. All status updates will be communicated via the GSMS portal.

If you are accepted into the IPG program you will need to arrange to have the official and original transcripts and certificates sent to the Faculty of Graduate & Posdoctoral Studies (GPS; formerly FGSR) directly from the issuing institution. Do not send original documents to the department.

Student Fees

The program is an 11.5 month intensive program requiring students in the program to take at least 12 courses during that time (additional or equivalent courses may be added or considered by the program director).

Please visit the GPS's (formerly FGSR) tuition and fees website to calculate the current tuition estimate.

International students who are considering enrolling in the IPG program can expect tuition and fees to cost in the range CAN$40,000 to $45,000 for the entire program (subject to change).
