The Department congratulates Dr. David Quinter (East Asian Studies and Religious Studies), who has been awarded a JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Postdoctoral Fellowship for foreign researchers. Dr. Quinter will be spending 2010-11 as a research scholar at the Historiographical Institute of the University of Tokyo, working on his book project, From Charity to War: Shingon Ritsu and the Manjusri Cult in Kamakura Japan.

Congratulations go also to Dr. Mikael Adolphson, who has been awarded a SSHRC Canada Standard Research Grant for his project on "Japan's First Economic Miracle: The Taira Trade Network in the Twelfth Century."
